Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Wellington Guzman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Wellington thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
This was my first time working directly with a client I had met over eight years ago. They wanted photos and video recap for their new campaign. They agreed on my price and they even added a little extra! So I delivered on said content, plus an extra video, plus holiday videos for their social media sales campaign.
Wellington, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a one person, small business, in South Beach, Miami Beach. Photographer with a focus in fashion.
My brand is about bringing visions to life, and I’m committed to delivering exceptional results through quality, creativity, and pushing boundaries.
Whether it’s in fashion, portraits, catalog, editorial, or corporate headshots, I’m dedicated to finding the unique beauty in every subject. My journey to where I am today professionally began with a deep passion for photography and nature, and a determination to refine my craft.
I started by taking classes at Syracuse University, reading everything I could find online including Strobist, all while continuously learning and networking with others in the industry. But while I love nature photography, my interests changed to fashion, once my friend Nicole D. invited me to Miami Swim Week, and New York Fashion Week.
I believe what sets me apart as a photographer is my ability to capture the essence of a moment and convey emotions through my photographs. And it’s almost always related to the music I listened to while growing up in the Dominican Republic, and in the 1990s Washington Heights, New York City.
If I work with you as a photographer/DP, I will go above and beyond to make sure the work is accomplished. As a result, I have been trusted to create content in plaes such as Las Vegas, New York, Monaco, Canary Islands.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
As a fashion photographer, I’ve seen the industry change in the last 25 years. Initially I was focused on nature and landscape photography, but now I’m focused on fashion.
I’ve gone from the last days of film, to DSLRs, to mirrorless, and now video and AI.
While I will always be learning about photography, lighting, directing, photoshop and Lightroom, I now have to place much focus on video.
As a one person business, I have to cater to the client, and that means I have to be flexible enough to now be proficient in audio/video and editing.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal or mission is to be able to travel through my creativity. I equate happiness with travel, and my creativity should be part of my toolbox to help me get there.
