We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kayli Krasnow. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kayli below.
Alright, Kayli thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
Oddly enough, my husband, Chad, is the best boss I’ve ever worked with! We co-own Hi, Finch, but he oversees HR and operations. In his day job, he gets to manage more than 100 people, and over the past several years, I have watched him deal with a lot of wins and a lot of challenges. He is so compassionate and respectful, and goes above and beyond to help his employees succeed.
Since he has a full time job, I oversee the day-to-day at our practice, which is something that is completely out of my comfort zone. Chad and I frequently sit down together over breakfast on Sunday mornings to discuss issues and we work through how to manage them. Sometimes the issues are my own, and I need a little managing! At first it was tough, because I can be emotional when I receive criticism but I also felt like a lot of situations were no-win, but he has worked with me to help me learn how to sensitively address issues to bring out a productive and hopefully positive outcome in tough situations, which has helped me grow as a person when I’m on the receiving end of a tough conversation.
Kayli, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a nurse practitioner, and I co-own Hi, Finch, a medspa in Nashville, with my husband, Chad.
Living a long, active life and feeling confident in your skin are things that everyone deserves to experience.
As life-long athletes, Chad and I have spent countless hours swimming, biking, running, and racing and we have experienced the toll that prolonged sun-exposure (often without sunscreen) has on the skin, but we also saw that there was no one out there promoting skin health for this group of athletes. Often, triathletes, marathoners, and trail runners take immaculate care of their bodies with drinking plenty of water and eating healthy, but the skin is usually forgotten about after you swipe on that minimal amount of sunscreen at the start of your workout.
We created Hi, Finch to be a medical practice for anyone out there that wants to start taking better care of their skin health! We want to give people confidence in their skin so that you can look as fresh and radiant as you feel. We value educating our patients about the services we offer so work together to create a comprehensive treatment plan to help you reach your skin goals. Importance is placed on ensuring you look like the best version of yourself, not leaving looking like a new person – your individuality is what makes you beautiful! We love to make everyone that walks through our door feel welcome, and we want everyone, no matter your age, race, gender, to feel loved, cared for, and understood at Hi, Finch. Our office space and staff are friendly and welcoming, and there is no judgement placed on if you arrive sweaty from a run or pilates class, if you just rolled out of bed, or are stopping by for our first appointment of the day on your way home from night shift.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
As a nurse practitioner with experience working with heart transplant patients and then in family practice, my job was to assess, diagnose, treat, and prescribe. When I moved into aesthetic medicine, being a cash-based business, I felt like I was no longer doing those things and felt like there was a need to “sell”, which is against my nature as a medical provider. So my first few months in business I was very uncomfortable. It was difficult for me to discuss budget, and I was probably under-treating a lot of my patients for fear of discussing the cost of a full treatment plan. I came to the realization after speaking with some friends in the industry, that my patients are still coming to me with an issue that I have to assess, diagnose, and treat and it wasn’t fair for me to potentially not give a patient full correction of their issues, just like I would never tell anyone to “take a little bit of insulin for their diabetes” – I have learned to create comprehensive treatment plans to give patients the ultimate results!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
At Hi, Finch, we try our very best to give the best outcomes for our patients by building trust. It’s important for our patients to feel comfortable in our space, which means we want you to come as you are and even bring your dog along! We pride ourselves on being welcoming and ensuring no one feels like the don’t belong. We want our patients to feel understood and have their concerns addressed appropriately, which means each and every patient gets a consultation at their first appointment so they see that I understand their concerns and so they understand the treatment plan. We also love to make our patients laugh, look at vacation and wedding photos and follow along in their journey in life, and make our patients feel like a part of our team.
