Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to April DidIt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
April , appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? How do you keep things going – any advice for entrepreneurs who feel like they can’t step away from their business for a short vacation?
I absolutely do at least 2 to 3 a year .
It just Hass to be planned out, but I try to make it happen as much as I can.
You can’t service other people if you’re not also servicing yourself self-care is important. If you can afford it, I say do it if you can’t do a staycation and take some days off, don’t work yourself to death because one thing about it if you don’t sit down your body will sit you down.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is April I’ve been doing hair my whole life really but let’s say for a professional purposes since 2016 I would say full-time just me but before that I graduated her school in 2009 Yes, I’ve always done here like I was the girl at school that knew how to do things because I was in cosmetology school in high school and then after high school, I started working as an assistant in a salon and then I went and got a job, but I was still doing hair work and on the weekends and then I got fired from that job and I started doing hair full-time and by the time unemployment was over I decided I was just going to do hair full-time, but no matter what I’m doing here has always been in the background .
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was doing hair in my house for maybe two years before my aunt finally said you have to get out of the house you have too many strangers in and out of the house. You’re messing up my floors and she told me she was going to get her floors done so I was gonna have to get out of the house but she would give me a heads up. She ended up giving me a three day heads up two weeks later and it was during prom season which is one of my most busiest season. I work son up to sundown And I had to pivot so the first day I did hair outside and 80° weather all day long the next day I ended up talking to a Barbershop owner asking him if I can rent a chair for the week and I did and I ended up staying there for four years I never left so it was a push I needed, but I didn’t want at the time
How did you build your audience on social media?
So I started doing Hair full-time and I started trying to take my social media presents more seriously because that’s how I was getting a lot of new clients so I knew I had to create a name for myself that similar to things that I was seeing hash tagged So I had to Play With A Bunch Of Different Hashtags And Then I Finally Landed On aprildidit And now you can literally Google it and all of my work pops up and just be consistent. Always be posting and you have to change with the social media how it changes now I have to make TikTok and reels on Instagram.
