Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Victor Pinones – Haltenhoff. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Victor, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with important influences in our lives. Is there a historical figure you look up to?
When I was growing up, I knew that I wanted to build my life in the United States. My greatest risk has been following my gut and moving here at the age of 23. I was coming to a country where I had no family and a limited amount of money to support myself. At the time, I had the opportunity to continue pursuing my career in Dubai or work as a Junior Director at Giammalva. I knew in my gut that Giammalva was the way to go because of my education and background. I was able to balance my skills of marketing, management, engineering, and tennis. It has been one of the boldest things I have ever done. I strongly feel as though my story closely resonates with many of the international students in the world and Giammalva. I am very grateful to see that my risk has led me to success in a professional and personal capacity.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Victor Pinones-Haltenhoff, and I am currently the majority owner of Giammalva Racquet Club located in Spring, Texas. I attended Georgia Southwestern University, where I received a degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing. I was born in Antofagasta, Chile and Moved to Barcelona, Spain with my four siblings starting my career in the tennis industry. In my early twenties, I followed my dream to pursue a career in the United States, Playing College tennis for 4 years leading the team which led me to my long journey of becoming an entrepreneur. I currently reside in Spring, Texas with my two children and lovely wife.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My advice to anyone with a business would be to culturally diversify your business. I have been using this technique throughout my career, and it has been a remarkably rewarding experience. Giammalva brings in hundreds of international students every year because of our unique approach. It is what separates Giammalva from other businesses in our area. We are always welcoming to cross-continental individuals by providing a once in a lifetime opportunity.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2020, my co-partners and I attempted to purchase the club from the former owner. Unfortunately, it was an exceedingly long process and did not end until July 15, 2021. We had to find solutions to the numerous obstacles that continued to arise. At one point, the date for purchasing the club was moved forward. Not only were we not ready, but the seller also raised the price substantially and unexpectedly. It was a moment in my journey where I knew that I had to keep pushing and working to achieve my goals. My advice to anyone, especially entrepreneurs, would be to keep pushing no matter what. We are all capable of achieving great things, it’s just a matter of how much you are willing to work for it.
