We were lucky to catch up with Britt Null recently and have shared our conversation below.
Britt, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
The moment I earned my first dollar as a creative was a milestone I’ll never forget. It came from one of my Youtube videos, and I vividly recall the excitement when that $30 appeared in my AdSense account. Though modest, it was a tangible validation of my creative efforts. I was thrilled!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
How did I get into my industry? Well, let’s just say the industry found me! My field of study was Elementary Education and after graduating I pursued a career in teaching. Only to realize, I loved the kids but had difficulty adjusting to things like teaching to the test and the overall ‘politics” that comes with teaching in a public school system. I left teaching and became a nanny and tutor. I’ve always enjoyed artistic pursuits like photography and videography and decided to pursue a side hobby of Youtube on my spare time. This was the moment when I realized the joy of creating content; specifically for an audience. As I journeyed further into the world of Youtube and content creation I expanded my platforms beyond Youtube into instagram, my blog and more. As my audience grew, creative brand projects and partnerships began to arise and that was the moment I realized my art, my content, my creativity, my passion could also be my profession!
Lifestyle content is my forte! I love sharing everything from home decor, recipes and mom life, to fashion, style, dating advice and local recommendations. On my Youtube channel, Britt’s Space, I enjoy sharing vlog-style content chronically my life as an entrepreneur, mom of 3 and creator. It’s a space where I can authentically show up and share parts of my life in a relatable way and it’s been beautiful to see the community of people who have followed my journey over the years. Over the course of 10 years, 362K followers have watched me navigate the loss of my father, the loss of my marriage and the ups and downs of life as a single mom. It’s become a space where other’s who’ve also experienced loss can feel seen and heard.
As my Youtube channel and other platforms grew, I had the opportunity to create content in partnership with some amazing brands and practice my skills of branding through storytelling.
One project that was most meaningful to me, was using my platform to give back to my community as a Big Brothers, Big Sisters Most Wanted Honoree. Sharing this project with my audience and challenging myself to create content that shared the vision and goal of BBBS, while also raising money for a beautiful cause was enlightening. An opportunity that pushed me past my comfort zone and added meaning to my creative process.
Another project that stretched me professionally while also inspiring me was filming a Mother’s Day campaign with Hallmark. It was a project that went beyond a camera crew in my home. It was an opportunity to share my heart, my journey and ultimately encourage other moms that they are not alone in the struggle of motherhood.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience on social media by showing up 100 percent as myself and sharing relatable content. I know! Small talk and perfection are two things I cannot live up to. So instead of pretending to be perfect or have a perfect life, I share the reality of what is and provide solutions, life hacks and support. My biggest advice for anyone trying to grow an audience would be to share what YOU love and what excites YOU most vs. what you think is popular or what will “go viral”. As fun as views are, it’s not always sustainable. But what is sustainable is the relationships you build with your audience and the people who choose to follow you. Whether it’s 5 people or 500, value every interaction. Reply to comments and messages. Create content that’s meaningful to YOU and the joy you exude will inspire others to join your community. Last but not least, don’t be afraid to be different from the rest. Social media is the one place where NOT following the crowd can set you apart creatively.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time in my life when I had to pivot was when my marriage ended and I had to decide if I was going to continue sharing content online, or walk away from it all. I ultimately decided to rebrand and continue on! It was the scariest yet most profound pivot I’ve ever had in my career. I completely rebranded my Youtube channel, social and also launched a blog. The leap of faith paid off and as I continued to share my journey, I gained more followers and opportunities, ultimately learning that sometime a bump in the road is actually a beautiful “detour” that leads down a winding path of new possibilities!
