Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Joseph Sayre. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Joseph, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful you have to be easy to work with.
Red Falls Timber is in the construction sector. We supply technically innovative building kits to projects all over the country. We make our margin on timber, but our product is really about making a construction project easier.
In construction a lot of businesses wrap themselves in mystery to protect their bottom line; Contractors say, ” I don’t know how much its gonna cost until we get in there” and “I cant tell you when it will be finished.” For a lot of people, that’s impossible to swallow. We decided to be as transparent as humanly possible with the goal of providing cost and timeline certainty to projects.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was trained as a historic shipwright. That means, I restored and replicated wooden boats. Specifically, I worked on American racing yachts from the golden age of yachting (1890s – 1930s). This was my profession for the entire decade of my twenties and provided me with the background of project management and deep timber craftsmanship that I rely on today.
In yacht construction, its almost inconceivable to imagine how the project will get accomplished; its too complex to wrap your head around at once. Likewise with prefabricating a resort. In order to get it done, I learned to rely on the process and accomplish the goal task by task with diligence and attention.
Red Falls Timber is in the construction sector. We supply technically innovative, design-forward building kits to hospitality projects all over the country. We supply easy to assembly structures as flat pack kits, with all the hardware and assembly instructions to get it done.

We are extremely proud to be treated partners by our clients and work with them from inception through opening.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
We have always had a good reputation in the prefabricated timber world, but recently one of our client gave us a boost.
Part of the promise of prefabrication is speed of assembly. Of course, its always easier to assembly something that’s been precision prefabricated than to cut and construct everything onsite, but it seems to be a law of nature that everything takes as much time as its allowed to.
Last summer our client, Finger Lakes Tree Houses, in upstate New York received 5 A-frame treehouses at the end of May. They were delivered to a green field at the end of a long driveway. in 4 weeks, the 5 buildings were getting roofs and in July – 8 weeks later- this green field was a beautifully appointed, and landscaped, boutique hotel that was fully operational and fully booked.
There is no amount of planning or prefabrication that can explain that. Our client was an American Army veteran that had incredibly impressive way of making it all happen. It was the best proof of concept we could ask for. They just launched a TV show on The Design Network called “Tiny Treehouse Escape” if you want to see the ups and downs of how we did it.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building a social media following has been a slow endeavor. Red Falls is a B2B enterprise, so focusing on our social media has never been a priority. However, our projects are perfect for Instagram, particularly in the completely safe for work genre of “cabin porn.” Our clients have been so generous in tagging us and promoting us that our following has really exploded.
I think that their desire to see us grow and support us is a testament to how we approach our clients as partners.
