We were lucky to catch up with Marcus Anderson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marcus, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The best thing that I could say about risk taking is do it scared. No matter what the feeling is of wanting to pursue a career or goal. The biggest and most important step is the first one. A lot of times fear cripples and withholds us from doing what we may love or be passionate about. Every step that I’ve done, even now. I do it nomatter if I may be afraid or of not knowing the possible outcome. Since then I’ve never regretted any decision I’ve made when it comes to taking risk in life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Marcus Anderson, and I hail from Spartanburg, SC, though currently, I call Raleigh, NC my home. My journey into the music industry is deeply rooted in my family’s musical heritage. Growing up surrounded by relatives who were passionate about music, it was only natural that I found myself drawn to it as well. However, it wasn’t just familial influence that guided me; I had a clear vision and dream for my career from a young age, and I’ve been actively manifesting that vision ever since.
With over 25 years of experience in the music industry, I’ve had the privilege of releasing 16 albums, each one a testament to my dedication and passion for my craft. But my contributions to the world of music don’t stop there. I’ve also ventured into entrepreneurship, founding my own coffee company—a venture that reflects my commitment to creativity and innovation beyond the realm of music.
In addition to my musical endeavors, I’ve found fulfillment in teaching at the university level, sharing my knowledge and expertise with the next generation of aspiring musicians. My commitment to education is a core aspect of my identity, and it’s something that sets me apart from others in the industry.
I am honored to have been nominated for both Stellar and Grammy awards, achievements that validate the hard work and dedication I’ve poured into my craft over the years. But beyond accolades, what I’m most proud of is the impact my music has had on others—the way it resonates with listeners and brings joy to their lives.
For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to know that my work is a reflection of my authentic self. Whether through my albums, my entrepreneurial ventures, or my teaching, I strive to inspire and uplift others, infusing every project with passion and creativity. My brand is built on a foundation of authenticity, innovation, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. I invite everyone to join me on this journey, as we continue to explore the boundless possibilities of music and creativity together.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is that I get to do what I love and share my gifts with the world. There’s an indescribable joy that comes from being able to express myself through my art and connect with others on a deeper level. Knowing that my work has the power to inspire, uplift, and even transform lives is incredibly fulfilling. It’s a privilege to wake up each day knowing that I have the opportunity to pursue my passions and make a positive impact through my creativity.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I’ve come to realize that I wouldn’t unlearn any lesson, as each bump and failure along the way has played a crucial role in shaping the person I am today. Every setback has been a valuable opportunity for growth and learning, teaching me resilience, perseverance, and the importance of embracing failure as a stepping stone toward success. By reframing my perspective and seeing challenges as opportunities for growth, I’ve been able to cultivate a mindset of continuous improvement and self-discovery. So, rather than wishing to unlearn any lesson, I’m grateful for the wisdom and insight gained from every experience, both positive and negative, as they have all contributed to my personal and professional development.
