Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tiffani Alvaran. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tiffani, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry? Any stories or anecdotes that illustrate why this matters?
My biggest pet peeve when seeing big brands marketing campaigns, websites and branding materials is when I can tell they did not hired the appropriate team for their African American models. Many times brands have failed when it comes to showing the modern black woman and they get called out on it. For example, we’ve seen black models whose hair was messy because they did not have a hair stylist who was trained in doing black hair. I’ve seen the color of makeup foundation being shades off or even a model that was ashy because the beauty team that was provided did not know that black skin should be moisturized, especially when captured in film and photography. This is one of the many reasons I stepped up to fulfill the important role of being a Creative Director to make sure black models are provided with what and who they need to look and feel confident which in turn will make sure that the brand has a successful photoshoot that will attract the right market and have them wanting to hit the buy button!
Tiffani, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being in my field is seeing my clients brand flourish. Seeing my clients being able to quit their jobs, take care of their families, and just live the life they’ve been dreaming about is amazing. Knowing that my designs helped them go sometimes from 0 to 100 makes every hour that I develop a design worth it!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve had to pivot many times in my 6 years in business. Pivoting is just a part of the journey of entrepreneurship. My most recent pivot was when I had my first and only child. I knew that I would want to spend most of my time with my daughter and did not always want to work from sun up to sun down so I switch up my offerings and started taking less clients which would allow me to do that.
