We were lucky to catch up with Aakash Bahirwani recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aakash , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
At the age of 21, when I encountered New York City. Although content creators had always been a part of my teenage life, especially on YouTube, I even tried to be one around the age of 12-13. However, my consistency was not the best, and I eventually gave it up, leading my life in a different direction.
But everything changed at 21 when I had the opportunity to travel to New York and discover that many people made a living in the fashion industry, something I had always been passionate about. Additionally, many were earning a living through content creation, often combining both aspects. This trip was a huge inspiration but also triggered a vocational crisis, as I was halfway through becoming a social worker. Finally, after more than a year, I decided to start creating content while finishing my studies.
And here I am now, with my studies completed less than a month ago, and beginning to reap the rewards of my efforts, as content creation is becoming the income source that allows me to sustain my life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a content creator, specifically focused on Fashion, Lifestyle, and data, with the latter being what my followers appreciate the most. It’s the type of content that has worked best for me—sharing valuable information about places to find clothing items that hold significant value in the collectors’ market but are available at very affordable prices. This kind of information is often gatekept by others. Additionally, I am a firm believer that fashion should transition towards a circular form, where we can reuse and, above all, revalue certain garments to give them a second chance, considering the fashion industry is one of the major contributors to environmental pollution.
In addition to this, I also share style inspirations, provide a consistent aesthetic aligned with my lifestyle, and publish content with cinematic transitions applied to fashion, leading to collaborations with major brands dealing in related products.
I hope to continue collaborating with brands while constantly learning and expanding the reach of my networks. This year, I plan to move to Berlin (I’m based in Santiago, Chile), so I would love to establish new connections related to travel, fashion, and, of course, located in Europe.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Only started consistently posting. The first time I shared content was less than 10 months ago, and I already have over 20,000 followers across three different platforms. Obviously, just posting alone won’t get you far if the content isn’t high-quality, so I would recommend consuming a lot of content within the niche you want to focus on. This way, you can understand what type of content works and what aligns with your style. From here, it all becomes a process of trial and error—you have to start experimenting, and over time and with consistency, you’ll figure out what works and what definitely doesn’t.
Now, it’s crucial to engage with your audience as it grows. Q&A dynamics work very effectively. Also, pay attention to the comments and interactions your posts receive, unless you want people to lose interest in engaging with your content.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Of course, there is. The truth is, I plan to move to Berlin and enhance my content in various ways. I’ll be sharing much more lifestyle content, but also learning and exploring various aspects of the fashion industry and content creation itself. The latter becomes even more relevant considering my home country, as here in Chile, social media platforms like TikTok or Instagram cannot be monetized, and collaborations with companies are poorly paid compared to the European or North American market. All of the above makes a destination like Berlin or the USA much more appealing for dedicating myself to content creation full-time.
Apart from moving to Berlin, I also plan to launch my own clothing brand in the next two years. It’s in its early stages, but when it materializes, it will have a significant impact on my life and content.
Finally, I’d like to mention that my content takes a strong stance on certain issues. I will always prioritize environmental preservation, and I believe promoting the reuse and trade of second-hand clothing is a small but significant contribution.
