We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tamika Nicole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tamika below.
Tamika, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Taking risks is what life is all about, yeah you can play it safe and thats fine too, however if its a dream inside you you have to go for it. My very first business i opened at 19 yrs old and boy was I afraid i learned so may lessons and made sure to take notes. I had a hair salon and it took a lot of work and a lot of my time. I took a trip to Ny with a friend and we went to the fashion district, i saw so many jewelry wholesalers and i took a chance bought some pieces to sell to some of my clients and the response was big. It made me think about doing more selling and i love fashion so it was a no brainer for me. But i felt i needed more experience
Tamika, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I embarked on my journey in the fashion industry by gaining invaluable experience through my work in various clothing stores and providing personalized styling sessions for individual clients. Hailing from Baltimore City, my passion for fashion and innate ability to understand the unique style preferences of my clients set me apart from the rest. This hands-on experience not only polished my skills but also fueled my dream of one day owning a boutique that would reflect the personal touch and commitment to customer satisfaction.
After years of honing my craft and building a loyal clientele, I took a bold step and founded my own boutique. The path to entrepreneurship demanded sacrifices and discipline, but I remained unwavering in my determination to make this dream a reality. My boutique in Baltimore City is not just a store; it’s a testament to hard work, dedication, and passion for fashion. The Style Lounge Boutique stands out not only for its carefully curated collection but also for the personalized attention each customer receives. Iam driven by the desire to cater to the unique fashion needs of my long-time clients and new customers alike, ensuring that they not only find the perfect outfit but also feel a connection with the boutique’s distinct, personal touch. Everyone that comes thru my doors are already a VIP
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
To gain new clients I love to wear some of my key pieces out and when they comment or compliment thats when the conversation starts Fashion talk can be fun and exciting. The most important part to gain a newbie is to listen to their needs and never make a Style promise u cant keep!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn taking things personal, I had to stay out my feelings when it came to business. I had to learn that everything that sounds good is not good for the business. All money isnt good money. People will congratulate you but not support sometimes and thats ok because the best clients and customers become good acquaintances and sometimes even friends
