Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Prysm. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Prysm, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
We feel that as a band, these past few years have been mostly about self discovery. We’ve spent the past few years truly getting to know what sound is ours and what direction we want to go in and it’s led us to where we are now. We feel confident in ourselves and our future and are excited to finally take what we’ve learned and put it to good use. We’ve never felt as solid as we do now and know exactly what we want and how we want it.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We strive to be more than just a rock band. We want to reach people with our art and help them experience something that’s unique only to us. We are not afraid to change up our sound and experiment the best that we can. We don’t like sticking solely to one “sound.” We want to show people that there’s something for everybody in our catalog and everybody can find something they like. Our sound has evolved dramatically over the years and we really can’t wait to show everybody who we are and what we do. We feel ready to move to the next step as a band and really continue to grow and tighten our sound and bring something to people they wouldn’t be able to imagine.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
We took about a year or two where we barely practiced or even saw each other. When Covid hit, it really affected us as a band. With little to no direction and the uncertainty of it all, we didn’t know what to do. Just like everybody else, we quarantined and felt hopeless. It was a difficult time for the band but deep down we knew we had to keep going. Even after Covid, however, we still felt a lack of energy. We didn’t have the same drive we did when we first started. As band members came and went, we felt the quality of our songwriting was suffering. We pushed through this difficult time and really started to get to know one another and put our creative differences to good use. It was then that we truly started finding ourselves and a sound that is unique to us. And it’s what helps drive us to keep making music and to hopefully reach a lot of people soon.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For us, having people to come and tell us how much they enjoyed our music and ask us for merch is so rewarding. To know that somebody out there genuinely enjoys what you do and supports you, it’s a feeling that is hard to be beat. There’s not many better feelings out there. Making music and thinking it sounds good is one thing, it’s another thing for other people to compliment you and tell you that you’re doing a good job at what you love. It’s amazing.
