We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stasia Humphreys a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stasia, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
I’m so thankful for my parents! They have always loved me, encouraged me, given me boundaries, disciplined me growing up when I needed it and helped me every step along the way.
My parents taught us all a solid work ethic from a young age. We had house chores as well as extra jobs we could do to make extra money and I was all about that! We scrubbed floors, washed and waxed cars, mowed a big lawn and so much more. When it came time to get a job we were expected to get out and find a job.
My parents also got me involved in sports. My mom got me into swimming which I loved and excelled at after awhile. My Dad got me into hiking and jogging. I’ve loved fitness and outdoor activity all of my life.
Most importantly my parents pointed me to Christ and the joy and foundation of having a personal relationship with Him. This has steered much of my adult life.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the owner and postural therapist at Pain Free Clinic of Denver. I got into this business sheerly by accident, a literal accident. I was skiing in Vail on a perfect day with sunshine and new snow and on the last run of the day I fell and tore my ACL, MCL, and LCL.
I had a successful ACL repair, but during the last Dr visit I stretched my arms up overhead and something in the right shoulder spasmed and that lead to 2 1/2 years of chronic pain that kept me from doing the things I loved (run, bike, swim, lift weights).
During that time I tried everything to feel better; PT, Chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, pilates, yoga and more…and while some of these things gave me temporary relief, nothing gave me long lasting or permanent relief.
At the end of the 2 1/2 years my neighbor Sandy loaned me a book all about posture therapy called Pain Free by Pete Egoscue. What he had to say made a lot of sense and I started doing his corrective exercises immediately. I began to feel better…surprisingly better. Then I did something wrong and went back a few steps at which point I decided to see a postural therapist.
Over the next 12 weeks I got 70% better…and decided that this was so amazing that I wanted to help people like me; people who’d tried everything and just couldn’t get rid of the pain they continually experienced, so I became an Egoscue Certified Postural Therapist after a year of training and that is how Pain Free Clinic of Denver got started back in 2012.
Now I do the exercises to keep my own body in alignment (I have scoliosis) and I use my training to help 100’s of clients feel better + move better + look better by giving them individualized corrective exercises designed to improve their posture.
After getting certified with Egoscue I also became a certified Foundation Training practicioner and a Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist.
Foundation Training helps heal back pain by spinal decompression through specific exercises (link below to check it out). The Postpartum training has helped me help 100’s of pregnant and postpartum women heal diastasis recti & incontinence issues.
I love what I do because it helps so many people feel so much better…in some cases, better than they’ve felt in years.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Like most businesses, I had to pivot big time when covid hit.
Thankfully I’d been working with a business coach on more on-line options and was able to quickly move my business from in-person individual training and group classes to Zoom meetings and classes.
The ability to pivot so quickly and help people who were stuck at home and in pain from working on a couch or kitchen table, was a huge blessing to my clients and many others and as it turned out 2020 was my best year ever!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The lion share of my clients come from three sources: Google + group classes + client referrals. I had help setting up my website and getting all of the right tags, keywords and metadata set up and I regularly update the site with new events, class updates and client testimonials. I host interactive workshops both on-line and in person at gyms, Athleta and other venues and this typically results in new business because the attendees understand and feel just how much corrective exercise can help. The biggest referal base are my client referrals. People who experience the change that individualized corrective exercise makes will typically share how much better they feel with family and friends.
