Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chelsea Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chelsea , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
As a journalist, jobs in our field are competitive, especially as you climb the ladder. It’s easy to fall into the practice of comparison when you see others advance faster. A lesson I learned early on is that whatever is for you, won’t miss you! It’s simple but can be applied to many areas of life. Once I grasped that concept, I became more driven to attain the goals that I once thought were impossible. Now I’m living the dream my 20-something younger self would beam about!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Chelsea Jones is the Weekend Evening Anchor at CBS News Miami. You can catch her reporting nightside during the week.
Chelsea joined CBS News Miami as a reporter in November 2022 after leaving the cold and snow of the Northeast.
She came to South Florida from Providence, Rhode Island where she served as an anchor reporter. There was no shortage of news in “Rhody,” including politics, weather, breaking news, and enterprise stories.

From hurricanes in the South to nor’easters in the Northeast, Chelsea has covered her fair share of natural disasters, but it’s community focused stories that have her heart!
Prior to her time in the Northeast, Chelsea worked in Louisiana. It was there, Chelsea won two Louisiana Association of Broadcasters Awards in 2020.
Chelsea extensively covered the 2019 governor’s race that included wall-to-wall coverage of then-President Donald Trump’s visit to Monroe and down to Baton Rouge to cover election night as incumbent Gov. John Bel Edwards won re-election.

She has served as an emcee for several community events in South Florida, Rhode Island, and Louisiana.

Happy to call Miami home, Chelsea and her dog, Sir Fitzgerald, would love to connect with you!
All restaurant recommendations and places to see in town are welcomed!
She’s excited to learn about the diverse communities and voices of Miami.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal as a journalist has always been to tell impactful stories. I want to shine a light on little known history, I want to hold people accountable, and I want to be a voice for those who may need a megaphone. It’s about using my platform for good and being a vessel for the community. It’s why I got into the business and it’s why I stay when so much in our industry is changing.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of my job is the people you meet along the way. The coworkers that become family and support you through life and job changes. More importantly, it’s the people that share their stories with me on their best and worst days of their lives. The job isn’t easy or glamourous. It’s truly a labor of love and passion.
