We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Vaughnchette “Lady V” Rudisill a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Vaughnchette “Lady V”, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

In this life, we tend to experience a series of disruptions that shift the trajectory of our life. Those disruptions can range from career shifts, relationship shifts, health, and financial challenges to our children moving away from home to strike out on their own. Life is constantly evolving and if we are not careful we can equate our value to the disruption instead of knowing we all have a purpose. Thus Purpose Beyond Disruption was born!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I did a short time in the US Army and then got my start in the third-party staffing industry where I learned to cut my leadership teeth. The staffing industry both humbled and matured me on my leadership journey. I learned how to listen, inquire, acquire, and present job opportunities ranging from entry-level to executive level. The staffing path combined my love for people and helping them locate new employment resources so they could provide for their families. I learned many of the hidden challenges that affect both job seekers and employers. Then, I had a chance to work in the medical supply industry for patients with needs that would allow them to maintain a quality of life. Again….it was about serving and meeting the needs of those I came into contact with. These two paths helped me to become extremely clear on the type of environment I wanted to work in and the type of work I was most fulfilled doing. So as I am in the final stages of completing my MBA. I provide both emotional support and career coaching to women and organizations that are ready for a shift but unsure of the specific steps it will take to walk that path out. People hear enough negative in their lives, they need someone who can help ignite their inner champion and help them win. They don’t need a bunch of steps that will only add to their to-do list…..they need encouragement to move forward. What makes me unique is I don’t offer cookie-cutter solutions, Let’s figure out exactly what will work best for you, and then let’s agree on how accountability will work best. My transparency is my superpower. The mistakes and trials I have made in my life have helped me to become who I am today.

Any advice for managing a team?

Teams are comprised of people who are human beings. They are not tools to be manipulated or used for profit or discarded during revenue loss. It does not matter how great your idea is….your brand is…..people are critical to success. Hire different, hire unique, and give them room to soar! Lastly, how you treat your team when “life happens” to them will determine how well your brand will survive in the future. They need the same grace that you would like when you make a mistake or miss the mark.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

Being a workaholic is a hot mess! I can recall in my previous jobs that I used to feel pressured to risk my life and drive during dangerous weather conditions because I felt I could not afford to miss. It did not dawn on me at the time that if I died while en route, flowers would be sent by my employer but I would be replaced quite easily. I had to learn to do better where my life was concerned and giving a company or person my every waking moment or available time is a no-go!
