Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Breeanna Farmer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Breeanna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
So, picture this: a home office where my cat and dog are always coming in to sunbathe and then chasing each other back out of the room again and an eager entrepreneur sipping on her homemade latte. The little moments working for myself, doing just this, sparked a fire within me. Because of starting my photography business and setting boundaries within it, I had so much freedom.
The people out there working dead end jobs that they hate day in and day out had it all wrong. We weren’t meant to spend every day of our lives doing things we don’t love… things that don’t light us up inside.
I had built a successful photography business and knew I had so much that I could help other humans with… not only in photography or entrepreneurship, but I had been through a unique set of challenges that taught me so much about life and completely reframed the way I look at things.
As soon as I was thrown the challenges I mentioned, I knew that someday I would be called to teach others what I’d learned.
In 2019, my sister came over to my house to deliver a belated birthday present that she’d been trying to get to me for weeks. I had almost bailed on her because I was stuck in an editing cave, just trying to stay caught up on my wedding edits and didn’t feel like I had the free time for company.
Thankfully, she did end up coming over (regardless of my workload) and stayed way longer than I’d initially hoped she would. We talked about everything that was going well in her life, her new boyfriend, her future and how happy she was. It was a great visit, that I’d almost skipped out of so that I could continue working late into the evening, yet again.
The next day, we got the news that my sister’s life was taken the night before.
Eventually, I realized that I’d almost missed the last couple of hours I’d had with her. I’d almost missed the last hug we gave each other and I’d almost missed hearing how well she was doing.
I’ll be the first to tell you how much I love my couples and clients that I serve. They are the absolute greatest and I love what I do as a photographer so much!
As a photog, you should absolutely be following through on the dates that you promise to deliver galleries to your couples, but you also need to take responsibility for making sure you’re also not overcommitting yourself to begin with.
Even though I would have told you at the time, that my family is the most important thing in my life, I wasn’t acting as if it was.
My business and my workload came before everything. Truthfully, I still struggle with this if I’m caught up in a passion project or excited to edit some previews, but I live a much more balanced life now than I did in 2019 and I am continually working towards improving it even more.
From this experience and the loss, I just knew I had to combine my photography and business expertise with something deeply meaningful and soulful – spirituality.
You see, my journey as a small business owner and photographer opened my eyes to the struggles that entrepreneurs face. I realized that there was a gap in the market—an opportunity for me to share my experiences, knowledge, and strategies with fellow dreamers and visionaries. I wanted to offer them the tools to navigate their own entrepreneurial journeys while infusing it all with a touch of the spiritual side of things. My passion is helping humans to do more of what they love.
The idea for the Manifesting Photographer Podcast was born from my own personal evolution. I had begun delving into spiritual practices like manifestation, EFT tapping and mindset work, and I saw firsthand how they transformed my own business and life. It was as if I had unlocked this secret gateway to success, and I couldn’t keep it to myself.
So, armed with my passion for photography, business know-how, eye opening life experiences and the desire to uplift and inspire others, I started on a mission to create a podcast and education for others where creatives could come together to learn, grow, and incorporate spirituality into their entrepreneurial life. I wanted to offer a unique approach—an unexpected fusion of business savvy and soulful exploration that would ignite a spark in the hearts of my listeners.
As I thought about where my heart was pulling me towards, I realized that I was tapping into a need that wasn’t being fully met in the industry. While there were resources for business education and podcasts exploring spirituality, there was a scarcity of platforms that combined the two. I wanted to be the bridge, the guide who led others towards a new way of thinking and creating.
The excitement that bubbled up within me was unstoppable. The thought of touching lives and empowering fellow entrepreneurs on their own journeys felt so incredibly right to me. I knew deep in my heart that this was a worthwhile endeavor—a calling that couldn’t be ignored.
And so, with faith, passion, and a few night stay at a Getaway Cabin in northern MN, the Manifesting Photographer Podcast came to life. It has become a place where dreams are nurtured, where business strategies and spiritual practices dance hand in hand, and where every aspiring photographer, creative and entrepreneur can find the support and guidance they crave.
I’m grateful every day for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others, and for the chance to combine my love for business and spirituality in a way that brings fulfillment to both me and my listeners. It’s a journey that continues to unfold, and I couldn’t be more excited to see where it leads.
There’s a saying about “leaving your 9-5 to work 24/7” when you’re an entrepreneur, but let’s all work to do a little bit better for ourselves and our communities day by day. Let’s help this to no longer be the norm.
Breeanna, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
If you haven’t read about me before, let me introduce myself and give you a glimpse into the world of Breeanna Kay Photography.
I’m Breeanna (or Bree), and I’m absolutely thrilled to be in the world of wedding photography and videography. How did I get here? Well, let me share my story. I started on this journey nine years ago when I left my job in accounting and moved back across the country to pursue my dreams. And let me tell you, it was the best decision I ever made.
Now, let’s talk about the heart and soul of my business. At Breeanna Kay, we are all about capturing the love and authentic moments that make your wedding day truly special. We specialize in small weddings and elopements because we love the intimacy and intentionality that comes with a smaller guest list.
So, what sets us apart from the rest? It’s simple. We take a holistic approach to documenting weddings. It’s not just about delivering the perfect shot (though we never compromise on that!). It’s about understanding your vision, connecting on a deep level, and creating a safe space where you can be your truest selves. We solve the problem of cookie-cutter weddings by embracing your individuality and weaving it into every frame we capture.
What am I most proud of? It’s the relationships we build with our couples. Getting to know you, your quirks, your love story, and your dreams is what fuels our passion. We want you to feel comfortable and supported throughout your wedding journey, knowing that we’re there to capture the intimate moments that reflect who you truly are.
In a world where weddings can often feel overwhelming and impersonal, we want to be the breath of fresh air you’ve been searching for. We want you to feel like you’re chatting with a close friend who just happens to be an expert in elopements. So, whether you’re a potential client, follower, or fan, here’s what we want you to know – you and your love story matter to us. We’re here to guide and support you, and together, we’ll create a day that is authentically you.
I’m also deeply committed to helping fellow photographers and creatives build lives and businesses and lives that they love.
Through my digital products, online courses, and the Manifesting Photographer Podcast, I provide education and guidance to help aspiring photographers and creatives find their own path to success. I believe that sharing knowledge and empowering others is just as important as capturing those unforgettable wedding moments.
That’s a quick summary on the essence of Breeanna Kay Photography!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Growing my clientele has been an incredible journey, and the best strategy I’ve found is actually quite simple – just showing up and being authentically you. Let me explain why.
In the world of weddings and photography, it can be tempting to put on a facade or try to be someone you’re not, just to fit into a certain mold or attract more clients. But here’s the thing – clients can see right through that. They want to connect with a photographer who is genuine, relatable, and true to themselves.
When I decided to embrace my authentic self and share my passion and personality with the world, couples who resonated with me and what I have to offer started reaching out.
If you’re a photographer or creative seeking to grow your clientele, I encourage you to forget about trying to fit into a particular mold or be someone you’re not. Instead, embrace your own unique voice, style, and perspective.
Let your passion shine through, share your personal stories, and be unapologetically YOU. Your ideal clients will be attracted to your authentic presence and the genuine connection you offer.f.
So go ahead and show up as the incredible person you are. Embrace your quirks, share your passions, and let your authentic self shine. The right clients will see and appreciate your genuine nature.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
When it comes to building my reputation within the wedding industry, there are a few key factors that have played a pivotal role.
One of the cornerstones of my reputation is reliability. I firmly believe that being dependable and trustworthy is the foundation of any successful business. When couples choose me to capture their special day, they put their trust in me, and I take that responsibility to heart. By always following through on my commitments and delivering what I promise, I’ve been able to forge strong connections with my couples and establish a reputation for reliability.
Doing what’s right, even when it may be challenging or unconventional, has also helped me build a great reputation. I believe in staying true to my values and being guided by integrity and authenticity. This means going the extra mile to ensure that my couples are not only satisfied with their photos and videos but are moved by the experience. It’s about capturing moments that truly reflect their unique love story.
Going above and beyond to serve my couples has been another crucial piece that’s helped build my reputation. Every couple I work with is special to me, and I want them to feel supported, cared for, and truly seen throughout their wedding journey.
