We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jon Fleming a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Being a self-employed small business owner has its pros and cons, but I would not trade it for anything else!
Three reasons I love being a small business owner and why I would never work a “regular job”
– My own schedule: I can work as much or as little as I’d like. If I want to take a vacation for 2 weeks, I don’t need approval from anyone. If I want to work 10 hours a day to grow the business I can also do that. There is flexibility to do what I want and use my time how I’d like.
– Control & Freedom: I have complete control and freedom over the direction I want to take my business, the type of work I want to do, and what I want to focus on in my business.
– Pay: I don’t have to wait for an employer to give me a pay raise or a promotion. I have control over my income. If I need to make more money, I can raise my rates, or accept more work.
I would never trade being self employed for a “regular job”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency has helped build our social media presence. I aim to post daily and be active. Sharing tips, sharing our work and being engaging.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, my business started over 12 years ago as a side hustle part time and then grew into my full time job
