We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Priscilla Hunt a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Priscilla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Recently, a big trend that is coming back is having lived-in or natural hair color. People are really starting to prioritize the health of their hair and I am all for it! As a hairstylist I really strive to make sure my guests are leaving with healthy hair they absolutely love, as well as give them all the tools and advice they need to keep it that way in between appointments!
I do a lot of fashion colors as its one of my favorites, and being able to keep someones hair healthy as well as give them their dream hair makes me love what I do even more!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I tried going to college to get a graphic design degree as Ive always loved art and have been drawing and painting for years, but 4 years of schooling wasn’t for me. I wanted to get out there and get started! My mom is an esthetician, I grew up learning about her work, so I had always felt like this was a possible option for me. Soooo…
I decided to go to cosmetology school and fell in love with doing hair there.
I have always been drawn to fashion colors, edgy haircuts, as well as any alternative styles. I wanted and still want to be as creative as possible!
Then once I started my job at Heath Hair salon and spa, I grew to love doing balayage and lived in colors. Alongside the fun colors of course.
I am so glad I am where I ended up and Im so excited to do what I love each day I work!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In November of 2022 I found out I was pregnant! Just when my clientele had started to grow and I felt like I was finally on track to having my books filled with something I loved to do each day! I prioritized my new baby girl and I was loving every day I was able to stay with her! But with that comes losing some of my guests.
I am so thankful to those who stuck with me, or came back to me, but no hard feelings to those who found a new stylist! I was gone for 12 weeks, I totally get it.
I have been back since October and have been growing my books again. It has been so nice being back at it and I can’t wait for what the future brings!
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Posting on social media, getting myself out there, just making myself known! Taking opportunities and getting referrals from my current guests are also main ways I have been able to grow.
Just being myself had lead me to the sweetest people and best guests I could ask for, who in turn send more of the same kind of people my way. I consider this a huge compliment, as any stylist would.
I absolutely love when Im a whole family’s, or friend groups hairstylist.
