We recently connected with Finette Basden and have shared our conversation below.
Finette , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to achieve success, it is crucial to take the first step towards your goal. As a nurse, I love my profession, but I always felt a pull towards my creative side. Unfortunately, I was hesitant to pursue it because of my fear of failure and what others would think of me. I allowed negative thoughts and self-doubt to hold me back. I created roadblocks for myself before even trying. It wasn’t until the unwavering love and support from my family and friends that I finally pushed myself. I realized that success could only happen if I took the first step towards doing something I loved. As the Nike saying goes, “Just do it”. Taking that first step is often the most difficult, but it is also the most important. Once you have taken that step, the path towards success becomes clearer.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As a photographer, the most fulfilling part of my job is witnessing my clients’ and my own visions come to life. It’s an indescribable feeling to capture the love between a couple or the fine details of a small business’s behind-the-scenes operations. I take pride in my ability to turn a simple image into a meaningful memory that will be cherished for a lifetime.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I know how easy it is to get lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I’m married with a family and work a steady 9 to 5 job, but I found that somewhere along the way, I lost myself. I realized that I had stopped caring about my own needs and wants, and focused solely on my family’s. Of course, I love my family more than anything, but I also needed to show myself some love too. That’s why I turned to photography, a hobby that I had always loved, and started to hone my skills. It felt amazing to do something just for me, and over the past 5 to 6 years, I’ve turned my hobby into a business. I’m excited to continue growing my business and exploring new avenues, such as content creation on social media.
