We recently connected with Kevin Rios and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin , thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
The definition of success often changes from the perspective that each of us have about it. for me success is when you feel proud of who you are as a human being, when you spend your time and energy doing what you love, and you get recompensated by it. sometimes you reach success when a dream that you had materializes thanks to your passion and dedication. When I was a kid, I use to spend most of my after-class time in a movie theater watching movies for hours while my parents were working, in that moment the actor where like heroes for me and it was fascinating that there was a job like that where you become someone else in order to tell a story and cause all those feeling and emotions on the people that is watching you, for many years I dream of becoming one of them and sometimes I saw those dreams so far from my reality. years later I decided to pursue an acting career and now that I’m in front of a camera and the director says “Action” I remember myself as a kid seated at the movie theater and is in that moment when I feel successful. I think that as long as you believe in yourself and work for what you dream you can be successful.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
9 years ago, I was feeling lost about what to do with my life and I didn’t know what path to take, the only thing I knew was that I wanted to be an actor, so after researching I found an acting conservatory in Mexico city and I auditioned, when I was there the first day of the trials I had a sensation of finally being at home, I felt a big sense of passion for all the activities and the classes and since then I devoted my life to acting. during that time period in Mexico City, I worked in Shakespearean productions and collaborated in independent films. after that time, I was ready for a new Journey in my acting career and I decided to move to New York in order to take my acting to another level, there I joined that Stella Adler Acting Conservatory and developed a passion for Shakespearean plays. in 2022 I had my Shakespearean debut in the play “Measure for Measure” later on I participated in the play “Romeo & Juliet” I also worked in various independent films and made my Tv debut in the Amazon Tv series “Mean girl murders”. during my time working in those projects, I decided to start a new path as a writer and started to write my own stories with the purpose of telling stories that comes from the depth of my heart so I can perform on those and bring new stories to the audience, I’ve been working on some psychological thriller’s. Last year I wrote and produced a short film about the story of a young man that goes to an alternative therapist to find out the reason of his dreams where he ends up realizing that he is been living his whole life under a Virtual Reality platform. Inspired on the new technological changes that the world is going through I wrote and performed the lead role on this new project named: “Transitions.” now I’m working in a couple of projects that I wrote and just finished to write my first tragedy short play that will be presented in some theater festivals in New York City.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being an actor is that for example if you are working in the Theater and you are at the end of the performance and you feel the reaction of the audience sometimes you see some of the people being emotional, weeping or laughing or reflecting on their reality. is when you feel that you did a good job since theater is a space of reflection and a place when you can see yourself trough the mirror that the stage is. I think is beautiful of this profession when you can make people feel alive when they connect with the depth of their feelings, they can see themselves reflected on the character that you worked on.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is always to connect genuinely with the audience and that they can see themselves through my stories and my performances. I think that there are always some moments where we feel lost or lonely in our paths, but I think that art and in specific a good movie or a show can always change your perspective of the world and sometimes can help you to understand the nature of the feelings that you are going through. that is why my mission is always to create content that can help people to have a different perspective of the world and that they can have a moment of reflection about the context that we are living now.
