Our commitment to safety ensures that survivors have a secure environment to rebuild their lives, free from the threats they faced before. We go beyond providing handbags; we provide a path to health and well-being. These are equally important to us. We understand that survivors have been through traumatic experiences, and we offer not only physical but also mental health support. We believe in holistic healing and provide resources and 1;1 mentoring to help survivors regain their emotional and psychological balance along with the path to long-term sustainability.
That is what truly sets us apart, our unwavering dedication to long-term sustainability. We recognize that merely providing immediate aid is not enough. Without addressing the root causes and empowering survivors with the confidence, skills, and resources they need, they may end up back in similar situations. Our programs focus on confidence, education, jobs, and financial empowerment to ensure that survivors can build a stable future for themselves and their children.

Cathlene , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hopefull Handbags Global is an organization with a compelling story, dedicated to making a lasting positive impact in the lives of survivors of domestic abuse and their children. Here’s an overview of who we are and what we stand for:
Our journey began with a deeply personal connection to the issue of domestic abuse. Our founder, Cathlene, herself sees what an impact abuse can have on a family. Cathlene’s mom grew up in a very abusive home. Her grandfather not only abused her grandmother but all of the children. Cathlene’s mom was in the middle of a total of 11 children so when Cathlene’s mom gave birth to her at the age of 15, her mom still has younger siblings at home. These siblings were around Cathlene’s age and they lived across the street from them. Cathlene never understood why her grandmother stayed. Her grandmother passed away at a young age about 35 years ago. No one will ever really know if it was the abuse that caused her to lose her life. But it seems likely. Her grandmother always held tight to her handbag and it was sometimes the only thing she had through the years when she had nothing else.
After raising her own four children with the still lingering question of what did she stay, she was determined to create an organization that could offer more than just temporary relief. Cathlene’s vision was to provide survivors with a pathway to a safer and more Hopefull future, and this vision became the foundation of Hopefull Handbags Global.
Our Mission and Values:
At Hopefull Handbags Global, our mission is threefold: to assist survivors of domestic abuse and their children in rebuilding their lives and to empower them for a brighter future. by opening up the conversation with Once-loved handbags filled with much-needed necessities. Our core values revolve around safety, health, well-being, and long-term sustainability. We believe that these elements are essential for breaking the cycle of abuse and creating lasting change in the lives of survivors and their children.
While our name suggests handbags, we have three main pillars that go beyond the ordinary.
Through our SHINE and NEW Programs we teach and guide for a healthy self perception wich is the base of everything in our lives. Counseling, and emotional trauma is a significant aspect of abuse, and we offer counseling and mental health resources to help survivors overcome these challenges. Job employment guidance, resumes, and financial independence is crucial for survivors, and we provide job skills and training to help them secure employment when needed. Financial Empowerment: We focus on financial literacy and empowerment to ensure survivors can manage their finances effectively. Our Women’s support groups are global as well.
Self-Defense Workshops: We offer self-defense workshops that not only teach physical protection but also instill inner strength and self-worth. These are open to the public and we now offer self defense certifications for instructors to be able to teach self-awareness and life saving skills.
Special Project in Kenya: We extend our impact to rural schools in Kenya, improving lives through essential infrastructure projects, such as water tanks and sanitation facilities, with a focus on education. These projects are all run by our HH Kenya Board and Kenyan community members where they are paid and learning a trade for future employment.

Seeing them regain their confidence, achieve financial independence, and build a stable future for themselves and their children is our greatest achievement. Our special project in Kenya also brings us immense joy, as we witness entire communities benefit from improved infrastructure.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
The inception of Hopefull Handbags global nonprofit began with an initial capital injection sourced from both myself and my husband. This initial investment laid the foundation for our organization, which remains deeply meaningful to us. We still contribute to its funding today, as it holds a special place in our hearts. When asked about how we funded our business, it all started with this initial step of personal investment, driven by our passion for the cause.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media plays a crucial role in our operations and is integral to our mission. It enables us not only to connect with survivors in need and offer them hope for a better future but also to engage with the donors whose support sustains our organization. Generating funds is vital for us to continue providing assistance to survivors of domestic abuse and their children. Additionally, our presence on ZZatem Social and blogging platforms has significantly expanded our reach organically.
For those interested in learning how we built our social media audience, our journey involved strategic planning and consistent engagement. We prioritized authentic interactions, regularly sharing compelling content that resonated with our audience. Emphasizing transparency and empathy, we cultivated a community around our cause. As for advice to those beginning their social media journey, I recommend staying true to your mission, actively listening to your audience, and remaining adaptable to evolving platforms and trends.
