We were lucky to catch up with Kendyl Martin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kendyl, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I often refer to my business as a “Unicorn Job” because I feel so lucky. In what other profession do you get to play on Pintrest, make your own schedule, and help couples plan one of the most impactful days of their life.
When I was in the corporate world, I’ll admit I thrived on a busy schedule and knowing exactly what each day would look like. You would be surprised to know I did not believe I was a “creative” individual and that I should just play it safe. However, I did know that I was very invested in customer service and providing the absolute best experience to our guests. I also was very good at troubleshooting issues and being quick on my feel to resolve issues.
When it boils down to it, this is exactly what you need in the wedding world. Wedding days are always extremely fast paced, and things do not always go to plan, but it is our job to provide above and beyond customer service to ensure our couples have the absolute best day and help resolve any issues that are thrown our way, from grandpa with his phone in the aisle, all the way to a missing vendor on wedding day, we got you covered.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Everything Bridal is a Wedding Planning and Coordination service based in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex. We help couples in all different stages of planning and to whatever capacity best suites them.
We have been in business for 3+ years and have completed 200+ events. What sets Everything Bridal apart from other Coordination services is some of the tools we provide to couples prior to wedding day, regardless of which package is booked with us. Our team cares deeply about each and every couple we work with and understand the weight that your wedding day holds in your life and how a coordinator/planner can directly affect the day.
As planners, we also offer our couples a deeper understanding of wedding day logistic. This helps ensure that we have a solid plan in place for wedding day and we have asked all the right questions to prep for wedding day.
In 2023 Kendyl, the owner of Everything Bridal, decided to grow the team and now we have Becca on board. Both come from an events background and are able to help with all services offered on the website.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
At first I thought that owning a Wedding Coordination business would have little to no overhead expenses, and boy was I wrong. Starting a business is an investment no matter what industry you are getting into but I did not realize how many things I would need to get started.
In order to be a legitimate business you first have to go through all the proper channels and it costs to become recognized.
Then you move to making you website and finding what RCM (Revenue Cycle Management) in order to send invoices and receive payments from clients. Some RCM’s take a 3% fee for processing payments to your accounts for you to receive the money. Once you have an employee you have to consider a system for pay roll as well.
Next is getting your name out there and how you will advertise your business. Personally this was one of the bigger sticker shocks for me, but the route I took was imperative to how fast I began receiving clients and it was absolutely a necessary cost for me.
Other things I did not consider were how much I would be spending in gas, supplies for my Wedding Day Emergency Kit, and other small subscriptions that I need to keep my business afloat.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
When I started my Wedding Coordination business, I did still have a full time corporate job. I figured that I would be able to do both because of it being a “9-5” job, and for a while I was able to balance both.
After some time my “side hustle” started to snowball into something that needed much more attention. About 6 months into having my business I felt confident that I would be able to leave the corporate world and go full time with Everything Bridal.
Although it was scary, it was 100% the right choice for me. Not only was I able to take on more wedding days, but I was now am able to commit so much of my time and energy to helping plan amazing weddings. The last few years have been so good that we brought on Becca and we are now able to help even more couples!
