We recently connected with Andrés Revo and have shared our conversation below.
Andrés, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The most significant project I have been in was my first feature film “Hombres Integros”. When I chose this film I was living in Los Angeles about to finish college. At this time I had already been selected for a TV series in a minor role. and the plan until then was to spend two weeks with my friends and family and skip two weeks of last my semester to shoot the TV series.
I was going home (Mexico) for four weeks before starting my last semester, but before traveling they called me for callback, I couldn’t go because I was still in LA. They gave me a second chance to go to the workshop where they were going to choose the leading and supporting roles.
When I entered the room there were 40 guys similar to me. But during the tests the director really liked me and after 2 weeks of tests they gave me the leading role. Those 2 weeks were tough because I didn’t know if I was going to go back to university or stay in Mexico where they would shoot the movie.
Andrés, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born in Mexico City in 2002, and I’ve always been a fan of movies. when I discovered acting I was 15, I had an agent back home and at the beginning for me it was a way to make money trough commercials but one day she sent an audition for a TV show, I didn’t knew anything about acting back then, but I did surprisingly well, casting director was impressed with my audition. After that I wanted to get better so I took a bunch of acting classes for future auditions. I’ve been working on my craft since then and I don’t plan on stopping.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Well when I did “Hombres Integros” (Nov 2022), while we were shooting I did an audition for another feature film. It was for a platform. It went really well and I had multiple callbacks, until there were only 3 candidates left for the leading role, me and 2 guys. by this stage we were already auditioning with the director, his feedback about me was great and I felt that since I had already done a film as the lead I would get this one too.
This project was going to start shooting in February 2023, But I started school on January. so I had a decision to make. A) To drop out from school without knowing if the role was going to be mine or not, or B) To sign up to finish my last semester and lose the chance to be in the movie. I chose option A.
But things didn’t go as planned. I didn’t book the movie and I had dropped out of school. the problem was that I also had to pay rent those 4 months that I wasn’t going to live there. I had no money, no movie and no school. I took some online courses to do something while I was in Mexico and eventually I managed to pay everything after a couple months
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I believe that in this industry like it or not besides being very good you have to know a lot of people to stand out. So I would say I would have liked to put that into practice much earlier. Surrounding yourself with people from the artistic environment is essential in my opinion.
