We recently connected with Verrin Cofield and have shared our conversation below. Verrin talks about his new movie “Envy Leads The Way”.
Verrin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful Projects that I’ve worked on is actually the project that’s in production now called, “Envy Leads The Way.” A Drama/Thriller where Individuals with immensely separate lives intertwine in stories of Envy, Resentment, and vengeance.
The reason why its the most meaningful project to me ,is because it shows just how far people will go to see you unhappy, broken, or even take your life, if that means internally they will be fulfilled or feel like they gain something from your downfall. These type of circumstances that will be portrayed in the film plays out every day in life, the only difference is we as people only hear or see the outcome(News, social media, word of mouth) we never hear or see how the root of the outcome began, I’m going to show the audience just that, the beginning all the way up until the end, the movie will start as a seed and end as a tree.

Verrin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My very short time I’ve spent in the Film industry, as a independent producer, the most problems I hear or that we run into as a film maker when were trying to make our films, are not enough money, not the right time, and lack of resources. These are very accurate statements, but I feel as a independent film maker you just have to find a way, if you make enough sacrifices and become more creative you would start to realize that the money is there. There’s never a right or perfect time for anything, you have to jump, take a leap of faith, and make it the perfect time, when you do that and have that mindset that I’m going to just do it, you start to realize that the time is now. We all wish we had more resources, of course we would like to have access to major production studios, or access to multiple investors, but when you’re starting out most likely that’s not the case, you have to become a problem solver, a problem solver finds ways to create resources for themselves, you have to be resilient, you have to be dedicated, and you have to be committed, those intangibles create resources for you, once people start to see you making great content, doing numbers, or making it happen without the help of the big guys, your phone starts to ring, your email starts to blow up.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time I had to pivot is recently last year 2023, I came in the year of 2023 thinking that Investors or producers were going to help me get my projects of the ground, but as months went on I saw that wasn’t the case, the investors were uncertain because the Sag Aftra strikes was leaving a bad taste in their mouth, so they didn’t want to fund the projects until the strikes were resolved, well that wasted a year sadly, and the producers that were supposed to help me get the project of the ground didn’t want to be in the trenches with me, they wanted to help once the money was in the bank, nothing wrong with that at all, but I realize at this moment that if I want to see my projects made the only person that was going to get them made was me, so I came into this year with my own money, my own plan, and executed. Now Im currently in production for my second feature film “Envy Leads The Way,” and will begin filming my third feature film October 21st in New York City, called “Beyond Treachery,.”
