Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tyler Sansom. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tyler, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I directed a film called “I Can” that was true story about a girl named Katelyn Pavey who was born with one arm. She went on to become a college All-American softball player. This project was important to me because it was one of the only softball films ever made. As a kid, I remember watching football films and being inspired as an athlete. Softball players didn’t have that opportunity, so for me, providing young girls with inspiration was an honor. The film was also used as a way to help at-risk kids across the United States. We partnered with Christian Alliance for Orphans to provide theatrical tickets for over 4000 at-risk kids while the film was in theaters. Beyond that, our team decided to donate 100% of the theatrical profit to help kids all over the country.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born and raised in Huntington, WV. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a football player and a filmmaker. I played football in college but suffered a serious neck injury, so I ended up becoming a pastor at a church in Indiana. My love for filmmaking never stopped, so I used my film skills to help start a film branch of ministry at the church I work at. It grew quickly from there, and in 2023, we had our first nationwide theatrical released film, “I Can.” I have directed four films and have been the director of cinematography on several other projects as well.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We try to identify our audience with each project very early in the process. For “I Can,” we knew that the disability community and the softball community would be huge supporters. So for two years before the release of the film, we posted nearly every day on Facebook and Instagram with relevant content . For upcoming projects, we plan to do the same thing. Our next film highlights the autism community, so our goal is to not only build an audience, but provide a place online where families who have members within that community can connect.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, being able to tell impactful stories to people who are seeking hope is the driving factor. I love seeking out stories that I think will be entertaining, but also impactful on a soul level.
