We recently connected with Alexandria Gilliard and have shared our conversation below.
Alexandria , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
The first dollar I earned for my business came from a client that asked for organizer referrals in her mommy group on Facebook. And the rest is history! Never underestimate the power of social media!
Alexandria , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a Shreveport, LA native and obtained degrees from Southern University of Shreveport and University of North Texas at Denton. Since graduation, I’ve been climbing the corporate ladder. I’ve always had a special knack for interior decorating, fashion, and organizing. I started out with assisting close friends and family with their own projects. Being stuck in a cubicle from 8-5 and not having much creative freedom can be a drag for a creative. I was in desperate need of a creative outlet and the idea of having an additional stream of income was appealing. So after some coaxing from my tribe members, I decided to take the leap, monetize my God-given talents and start my own business doing something I absolutely loved and was pretty great at! And that’s how Declutter Co. LLC was born!
I’m fully aware that people want to live and work in a place that isn’t just fly—but functional. In order to do that, you need to declutter and get organized. The major issue is that most don’t have the time nor energy for these projects and become overwhelmed just thinking about it. I totally believe everyone deserves a decluttered, well-organized space to live and work in. That’s why I guarantee Declutter Co. clients an experience that makes them feel supported in every step along the way. Here’s how it’s done: 1. First we sort via the popular Keep. Trash. Donate. Storage Method. Think ‘black Marie Kondo’ and she’s your favorite cousin. 2. Then we plan & arrange. Our motto is if it stays in the space, it must have a place. 3. And finally, it’s time live your best life in your fly and functional space.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new Declutter Co clients have come from referrals and social media. I love my clients and social circle! They refer my services all the time.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The beauty about starting an organizing business is that the start-up costs are close to nothing. I created free accounts on FaceBook and Instagram and used those accounts to post photos of projects, interact with followers and also promote my business.
