We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leia Nicole a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Leia , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
When I first opened my Day Spa, I put out a deal on Groupon. Yes, I would be giving half price massages at first, but I thought of it as my chance to “audition” so to speak… it was my chance to wow them, and make them a return client for life. I looked at is as an opportunity to show them what makes me different.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I have over 15 years of experience as a business owner, massage therapist and personal trainer. What really sets me apart from the rest, is that I can offer so much more to my clients than temporary pain relief for the hour they are on my table… Since I am also a personal trainer, I can give them stretches and exercises to do at home between their massages, to help keep them feeling their best. Many of my massage clients have also hired me on as a trainer, so I am able to help them become healthier as well as more pain free. It is very rewarding to help people lose weight, move better, get off pain meds, and live a high quality life.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I send out emails every 2 weeks to all my clients, with tips and tricks for how to stay healthy and pain free. As a massage therapist, I will send out videos of myself demonstrating stretches and exercises for common pain points, such as low back pain, neck pain, headaches, knee pain, plantar fascitis, tendonitis, sciatica, rotator cuff issues and more. As a trainer, I will send out emails such as “Lower Body Workouts for Painful Knees” or ” Nutrition that lowers inflammation”. I want to always make sure I am providing them with value, even while they are not in my office. I also run fun contests and giveaways.

Have you ever had to pivot?
When covid hit and all the gyms shut down, I had to come up with a way to serve people who no longer had a place to workout. So I created a 30-day “Lockdown Challenge” (since everyone was stuck at home) where we all worked out at home, with little to no equipment. We had a private FB group, videos, weekly check ins and more. At the end of the 30 days, many of those ladies hired me as their full time online trainer.
