Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christina Cheng. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Whenever I create a fashion collection, I am very excited and have a feeling of colliding my ideological front with the world. We have too many confusions and emotions that need some outlet, and we want to find resonance with the world. Conceptually, my design is my language, and I want to tell friends who resonate with me, let’s play together! With a strong passion and drive for fashion and creativity, I am confident in my creativity and my ability to bring something fresh and original to the industry. Objectively speaking, I believe that success in fashion and creativity often requires a combination of creativity, business acumen, perseverance, and adaptability. I have also refined my design, marketing, management, and business skills over the years, and have been learning and developing towards the goal of success. Over the years, I have also gained a certain concept of supply chain and new trends in virtual garment design. I will also continue to learn and develop myself, so I believe I can reach what I expect.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I studied fashion design at Wuhan Textile University in China as my undergraduate and also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in the Fashion Design program at Savannah College of Art and Design. I’m really into fashion cause I like to wear beautiful garments and the way when people look at my design with an impressive face. I still remember when I was little, there was an old sewing machine in my home, the one that we needed to control the footstep frequency and the wheel at the right side of the machine to control the sewing speed. It belongs to my grandparents and I saw my grandmother use it to fluently sew beautiful dresses for me, I was interested in that machine, and I think that probably the earliest experience I have crossed paths with the world of fashion, which planted a seed in my mind. For my fashion design concept, I am very interested in conceptual garments, and commercial designs, and I tried to balance between them. I hope to incorporate what happened in my life and my perception of life into my design. After graduation, I’m still working in the fashion field to gain more experience, like towards the most updated trends — 3D and Metaverse. I think I’m still in the early age of my brand. But the thing that I want my potential clients to know is that just as in my all collection designs, the message is “be true to yourself.” In this era of information explosion, one can be overwhelmed by the messages they receive, even burying their true self. I want to encourage women including myself to pursue ourselves and express only our ideas.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I believe design is the expression of my own emotions and thoughts. The collision between my thoughts and society, as well as my hesitation and thinking when faced with various perspectives, are all reflected in my works. I think my work is a way for me to understand myself. There are too many voices in society now, and it is difficult for people to calm down and find their true voice. What kind of person am I, what choices should I make, and what kind of life do I want to live? This is something that everyone has to spend a lifetime thinking about, and this is what motivates me. This is for my development. As for my designs, I hope my works can bring people a pleasant feeling at this stage. I am thrilled when I see my designs, so I also hope people can feel happiness wearing them.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I think Metaverse and NFTs are a trend. You know, it is really interesting that I was studying a business major class to gain more experience, which is called Managerial Economics, we had a project to create a business plan for a case or a concept in any market or industry. The only topic I want to do is the metaverse. We decided to create an NFT platform to sell digital art. We did the research and believe it has a good future. As a unique digital asset, NFT can represent some physical objects and can also be bought and sold, but its way of existence is intangible. Compared with traditional business models, the business development of NFT is more avant-garde. In the field of digital art, I think it can solve some of the copyright problems for digital artists, including ensuring that digital artists can better make money from their digital art, such as whenever digital art is sold on platforms including the secondary market in the Metaverse, the creator can make a profit from it. In addition, I think that the current NFT platform users are mainly professionals, and there is a lack of popularization among the public, but this is a trend, and this development is irreversible. From a market perspective, the young people who will be the main customers have spent more time and money in the virtual world since childhood than in reality, like games for example. When they have an economic foundation and become the main group in society and the consumer market, the infrastructure of the virtual world should be mature enough to carry these basic attributes of digital artworks, and the market for digital artworks will be completely opened.
