Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lena Bishop. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lena, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
Both my parents have been supportive of me from day one in art. From being a young child to even now. Always buying me art supplies, showing up to art events and shows. They are truly my number one fans. My father himself was an artist and my very 1st art teacher. He drew mainly in pen and created very realistic works. He taught me the basics and I quickly excelled. He used to keen eyes to always point me in the right direction and give me much needed criticism to improve. Not have any sons to pass on him name, any time he saw the BISHOP name up at an art show or in cartoon credits, his whole face would light up with joy. He’s sadly passed now but I still carry on him name and make him proud with every creation of art I create.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello, I’m Lena Bishop. A Long Beach local female artist. I draw, paint, and animate. I’ve been drawing since I was a kid and could 1st hold a pencil. I 1st learned art from my father, then continued to take art classes in school. When high school came around, I was lucky enough to join the schools animation program. This is where I found my passion. Animation was everything to me. I love creating drawings that moved! After graduation I went right to college (csulb) for a degree in animation. I then quickly just jumped into the field. Working as a Production Coordinator previously at Disney junior, Marvel, Bento Box, Fox, and Nickelodeon! I became part of women in animation and have had numerous art shows. I’ve worked on books, comic books, and have sold tons of artwork over the years. Along the way I’ve had an art booth at lots of different art galleries/events and even the aquarium of the pacific. I’m a full time artist and part time everything else! Art is my life and I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
What’s most rewarding about being a creative is Seeing the face of a happy customer. Seeing the eyes light up on a child who sees the animation I’ve worked on. When someone asks me for a commission because they like my art so much. Hearing people get excited over something I created. The smile on a happy customers face.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my social network by just continuing to post. I draw every day and I post weekly to keep my followers happy. I post and forget and come back to it later to see the results. But just keep posting and keep drawing and your followers will find you!
