Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Zay Suav. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Zay , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally when I found myself falling out of love with the game of baseball. After working extremely hard to put myself in a position to be a MLB prospect my junior year, I suffered an injury that halted my aspirations of becoming a professional baseball player. Through the recovery process, I found myself looking to music as a way to get my mind off of my injury. It became the only escape for me in a time where I needed something to fall back on.
I dropped a few songs on SoundCloud a year later (my senior year) and received positive remarks from not only friends & family, but random people on social media as well. It helped build my confidence and resulted in me taking the stage for my first performance at SoundBar in Orlando Fl. Once I took the stage I realized it was something I wanted to take serious, and to bigger stages.

Zay , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After making the transition from the sports world to the music world, I wanted to apply the same work ethic I had as an athlete to my new music endeavors. I knew I had a passion for it and for someone like me, that is all you need to want to be the best. Having friends who were also artists (and current group mates) helped tremendously in the process of becoming the artist I am today.
I took a lot of inspiration from all types of music, and put in hours and hours of recording and experimenting in order to find the sound that makes me unique. I like to call the music I make “Trap & B”; the perfect blend of Trap music and R&B. What separates me from others in this industry is the facts that I am able to blend two of the most popular sounds with extremely catchy melodies and meaningful content. I am most proud of being able to create honest work in an era where there is a lot of copy & paste going on.
I look forward to releasing a lot of music this year that fans can connect with and take with them wherever they go. I have a lot of crazy melodies in store and I want people to know my sound is here to stay. Look out for “Backseat Music” soon…..

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to inspire & influence. Having the ability to create music is one of the strongest gifts on earth because music is a universal language. I feel truly blessed to be able to create melodies and flows that end up being the tune that gets stuck in someone’s head. This is why it is your message is so important, and why I plan to deliver music that feeds souls all over the world.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I used to believe that the only way to find success is through the backing of a label. As I continued to grow and have success as an artist a lot of research was done in order to understand the industry I was putting myself in. With the major success and help of my Music Group “Bungalow Collect” independently, it was important to unlearn this notion of “needing” an industry in order to thrive as an artist. Everything you need is at the palm of your hands, you just have to be willing to stay hungry, put the work in, and stay confident in yourself; you only have to be right once!
