We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dahmarre Bournes AKA KWDAGOAT. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dahmarre below.
Dahmarre, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I am currently extremely happy that I chose to pursue a career in art. I’m a college student working full-time on this right now, hoping to achieve something big before I graduate. I really could not picture having to work while pursuing my artistic career, but I think about it frequently. I firmly believe that you should pursue your passions. I find it impossible to imagine a life in which my passion for music needs to be surrendered in favor of a job I don’t want.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
That would make me pleased as well! I go by KWDAGOAT. As a 20-year-old artist from Hartford, Connecticut, my primary goal is to use music to save lives, just as it saved mine. After facing major depression the previous year, I started to write in middle school during my seventh grade year. My outlet is music. People like reading my public journal, and I enjoy writing for them. Every piece of material I publish is written to leave an impact on the reader or listener. There are many musicians in the music business whose style appeals to a certain group of people: those from underprivileged, dangerous neighborhoods. I engage that community as well as those who experience depression or lack of confidence and those who don’t feel heard. The intention is for everyone to have a feeling of understanding, much like I experienced when I listened to those artists discuss their hardships in the sixth grade. Everyone who sees and listens to me is aware that this is a safe haven for them as well. to cry, to be driven, to feel inspired or valued. To become you.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Hearing from supporters and followers that I was able to help them is the present purpose or goal that is propelling my creative journey. The goal is to rescue individuals from their thoughts, even if it was only for a few hours or days each week. In addition, I share the common objective or goal with alot people of improving my family’s situation. My family is of Caribbean ancestry, and they have the narrow belief that “big dreams don’t pay bills.” I hope that one day I’ll be able to place them in a situation where they’ll see it’s feasible. My pops didn’t have anything at all. My mother did the absolute best with what she worked for. Here I am doing the same now.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The ability to inspire other creatives is the most fulfilling part of being a creative. I visit my old high school and speak with other young visionaries there. I have heard this quite a bit. “Your progress and Journey has been motivational to me.” Being an artist actually seems unattainable when somebody comes from an extremely small state. even on social media. It fills my heart to no end when others find inspiration in my story. I remain open with my fans and supporters in the hopes that someone will be motivated by my struggles.
