We were lucky to catch up with Christie Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christie, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Ever since I was a child I had a fascination with learning. My grandparents owned an art & framing store and it happened to be the first place I visited when coming home from the hospital. I always say that imprinted upon me as an infant, and growing up surrounded by art and my grandfather’s artisan framing skills made me believe that art is a viable career choice.

Christie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As an artist deeply inspired by the profound impact of climate change, I am passionate about capturing the beauty inherent in the struggle of coastal communities through my work. My identity as a multidisciplinary artist allows me to express this inspiration through various mediums, making use of paint derived from earth and mineral pigments.
My artistic journey extends beyond paper and canvases, as I employ ceramics as a three-dimensional extension of my visions, creating a tactile and immersive experience for the viewer. The fusion of these mediums allows me to convey the essence of the evolving climate narrative with a unique perspective.
My art has found a home in local boutiques, galleries, and museums, showcasing the fusion of sustainability, and color that defines my work. By utilizing paint derived from natural sources, I not only weave a compelling narrative but also contribute to a more sustainable art practice. This commitment to eco-conscious creation sets me apart in the art world, reflecting a harmonious balance between aesthetic expression and environmental responsibility.
Over the span of 2021 to 2023, I dedicated a portion of the proceeds from my art sales to a meaningful cause, contributing to the growth of 2500 new oysters in Long Island, New York. Recognizing the invaluable role that oysters play in environmental conservation, each oyster filters an impressive 50 gallons of water per day, actively cleansing and revitalizing our local waterways.
Through my artistic endeavors, I sought to bridge the gap between creativity and environmental stewardship, using my work as a catalyst for positive change. By channeling a portion of the proceeds towards oyster cultivation, I aimed to contribute directly to the restoration and improvement of our local ecosystems.
This initiative reflects a commitment to sustainability, demonstrating how art can extend beyond its visual impact to make a tangible difference in the natural world. It is my belief that artists can be catalysts for positive environmental change, and through this project, I strived to embody that ethos. The success of this endeavor not only benefited the environment but also highlighted the potential for the art community to engage in meaningful and impactful contributions to the greater good.
I also extend my reach through my own website, offering art enthusiasts the opportunity to engage directly with my vision. I share not just art but a story of resilience, adaptation, and the inherent beauty in the face of change. As an artist, I invite you to explore the intersection of climate change, art, and sustainability through my unique approach that goes beyond the canvas, creating an immersive experience that resonates with the heart and soul.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I strongly believe in the powerful intersection of art and environmentalism, recognizing the capacity of artistic expression to serve as a potent tool for raising awareness about the urgent challenges posed by climate change. Through my work, I strive to bridge the gap between creativity and environmental advocacy, weaving a narrative that encourages reflection, sparks conversation, and prompts action.
Art, with its ability to evoke emotions and convey complex messages, has the potential to engage people on a visceral level. By intertwining my artistic endeavors with a commitment to environmental causes, I aim to amplify the conversation surrounding climate change. It is my belief that the beauty and impact of art can serve as a catalyst for fostering a deeper connection to the environment and inspiring collective efforts towards sustainability.
In this ever-changing world, the arts have a unique ability to transcend boundaries, reaching diverse audiences and igniting a shared sense of responsibility for our planet. I am dedicated to using my artistic platform to not only create visually compelling pieces but also to contribute to the broader dialogue on environmental awareness and the need for meaningful action in the face of climate challenges. Through this intersection of art and environmentalism, I aspire to inspire positive change and cultivate a greater sense of environmental stewardship within our local and global community.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative lies in the daily journey of curiosity, research, and innovation. It’s the opportunity to explore the boundless realms of imagination and take the ideas that reside in my mind and transform them into tangible reality. The act of creation is a continuous process of discovery, and this perpetual sense of wonder fuels my artistic endeavors.
However, the true essence of fulfillment comes when someone connects with my work on a personal level—when they feel something or are inspired to embrace calmness, or take meaningful action. Witnessing that emotional resonance and impact is incredibly gratifying. Knowing that my creations have the power to evoke emotions, spark introspection, or motivate positive change in someone’s life fills me with profound gratitude. It reinforces the realization that I am fortunate to have a career where my passion and creativity can contribute to the enrichment of others’ experiences and perspectives.
