We were lucky to catch up with Tawnie Breaux recently and have shared our conversation below.
Tawnie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
Thanks so much for having me. This is a great question. I’m a firm believer in “make a decision and then move forward, no second guessing, no what if’s”. First, of course, weigh the pros and cons, BUT then decide, and don’t look back.
I had a very successful 20-year career in the technology industry and found myself dreaming of owning my own business. When the opportunity presented itself… well, I said a prayer and jumped in.
Holding on to your dream and stepping out on faith is a little terrifying.
For those considering a similar path, it’s crucial to understand that entrepreneurship demands resilience and a willingness to tackle challenges even when you don’t feel like it. Knowing your ‘why’ becomes the guiding force, and aligning every decision with that purpose is the key to overcoming any obstacle. Believe in your mission, focus on serving others, and you’ll find that no mountain is too high.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Greetings, fantastic readers! I’m Tawnie Breaux and I’m delighted to offer a glimpse into my journey for those encountering me for the first time.
I started out teaching like so many of us sweet-hearted souls. I soon discovered, as technology started to move into the curriculum, that I was hooked. I earned my Master’s in IT and moved into the software world. Startup companies were my jam, I loved the pace and energy that allowed me to grow into larger teams and organizations.
After a lot of learning and running successful teams at a global level, I decided to create my own world. I knew my dream job was in technology and sales, I just had to find the right fit.
Then it happened: I started a tech company focused on online advertising and WHOA we were off and running. Success Headway was born in 2020.
Now, like many entrepreneurs, I wear a lot of hats. My business is my passion, but I’m also a mom and wife and have many other interests. I love learning (that’s the teacher in me), traveling, relaxing with yoga, reading, coaching, and visiting and sponsoring retreats.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I do love a good book. So many of us will watch hours of TV but not pick up a single book to save our lives. I am always searching for new information, insights, tips, motivation, and sometimes just for entertainment.
I’ve figured out I need self-discipline and a daily kick in the butt to keep me going. My go-to gurus for business smarts are Ed Mylett and Mel Robbins. Their podcasts are my daily dose of wisdom. And when I want to chill and learn, my happy place is my library. Some gems that have fast-tracked my career include “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie, “Rich Dad Poor Dad,” “The Four Agreements,” “The Magic of Believing” by Claude Bristol, and “Miracle Morning” by Hal Elrod.
I’m all about soaking up knowledge, and it blows my mind that people spend their whole lives gathering wisdom and are generous enough to put it into a book that we can devour in a few weeks. It’s like a shortcut to a lifetime of experience. Even if you’re not a bookworm, try reading just 10 pages a day—it can seriously change your life.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
So, every business needs its own tricks, right? What works for one doesn’t necessarily work for another. For me, it’s all about getting connected to my community. I’m the president of Ladies in Action, our local women’s business chapter at the Heights Chamber of Commerce. Plus, I’m on the board of Houston’s UPWARD Women. On the side, I’m all about volunteering at Rescue America, fighting human trafficking, And I love to support local small businesses.
Being in the community is my secret sauce for growing clients. You can build real connections and help others out, and it all comes back to you. I’ve created business opportunities and made lifelong friends through joining church groups, volunteering, and staying involved.
Setting ourselves apart with professionalism and fair pricing has also played a crucial role. There’s a contagious winning spirit when you genuinely get to know your clients. Success becomes a collective effort, and when everyone thrives, business naturally grows. You create your own life.
