We recently connected with Lea Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Lea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is rooted in my faith and love of the world and all within it. It is to make the world a joyful place. There are times in our lives when joy seems void within and around us. It was in those moments that I would find myself searching for ways to bring that back or help others find even a moment of it. Throughout my life, I have faced bullying and negativity which would zap the happiness and joy within myself. I never wanted others to feel that way and started taking steps to watch what I did and said to others to prevent similar feelings. This then escalated to wanting to make people smile whether I knew them or not, it just brought me so much joy to watch a face light up with happiness. The mindset of bringing joy trickled over into my work life where I learned that simple things of being an ear for the hurting, laughter for the sad, and compassion for the lonely was the true joy in life. I worked in physical therapy while in college and there would be times when patients would come in depressed or defeated, but by the end of our session together we usually always found something to smile about. Soon, I heard a repeated phrase from the people I encountered in my life, it was “you are such a light to this world.” This hit me hard and is what has become a staple to my mission within my life and work. Everything I do in life points back to helping others find joy, whether that be to lend a helping hand, do something funny to make them chuckle, or create work that people want to immerse themselves in. At the end of the day, everything points back to the question, did this make someone experience joy and happiness even for a moment?

Lea, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For the people just meeting me, hello, my name is Lea Williams and I am a marketing professional and mentor. Marketing has intrigued me throughout my entire life, from the colors and fonts used in billboards, placement of products within stores, time of day for advertisement, and many other details. This led to pursuing a degree in marketing while being a stay-at-home mom of three kids and running a farm. I attended Grand Canyon University as a remote student which taught me time management and self-discipline.
Today, I continue to work from home mentoring fellow business owners in the ways of marketing and how to reach their target market groups successfully. I am currently the marketing director for Kayla’s Unique Eye, LLC and a tutor for fellow marketing students in foreign countries. What sets me apart from just any other marketing firm is that personal touch. It is not a cookie cutter marketing plan that is pitched to every single person that reaches out for services, but instead an intimate road map that is geared to support your individual business needs and goals. My mission is not to give you a map and compass and send you sailing, but instead jump aboard the ship to assist throughout the rough seas of business ownership.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In highschool and shortly after graduation, my path was to become a physical therapist. Then I met my now husband who was a single parent, which means I took in a child and priorities had to change. In the world which I was living in, my husband had better career options that led him working away from the house often. This situation meant that my school and career had to be put on hold to raise my step-child. This devastated me because working in physical therapy was what brought me joy in life as I assisted helping others feel better in their day to day lives. Then we added three more children to the picture and going back to school for physical therapy was just not in the cards for myself anymore. I was faced with giving up on my degree all together and facing the fact that I would just be another “at home mom” or digging deep to find lifelong passions that could be pursued as a career.
Then an advertisement appeared on my social media thread that was for a business degree at Grand Canyon University as a remote student. One simple phone call along with lots of research and prayers led myself down a direction that brought me purpose and joy once more. I found marketing as a long lost love that had been reunited with me. My life went from defeat and disappointment to not achieving my first goal to confidence and purpose-filled within this new path of life. I share this to remind people that it is okay to pivot, as it can lead to great growth and adventure of exploration of oneself.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The common question I hear from clients is how can I reach new clients? The answer I give most of them is a shock to them because it is very simple yet often overlooked. You must get out in the world and out of your comfort zone! Clients are all around us each and every single day. Yes, it is important to have a consistently active social media presence, but what about all the people you pass in the stores? They are all potential clients that are looked over because it is not your standard networking space.
In my business, I make it a goal to speak to two people within my daily life to spark conversation with. During that conversation it usually comes up what we do for a living or things we are excited about. Right there is where I insert my business and build connections on a personal level to build those clients quickly and easily through my daily life. These simple conversations have led me to have new friends, clients, and even people who refer me to their friends and family looking for someone to aid in their business needs. Never miss an opportunity to share your business regardless of where you are or how you look, because people will remember you, even in your comfy clothes, as someone relatable and a real genuine human.
