We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Rochelle Merriweather. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Rochelle below.
Alright, Rochelle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The risk of simply starting my business was a major thing for me. Yes, I do mean major! lol There was a point in time where I felt completely lost within myself and my purpose in life. I was not working at the time due to the company I worked for decided to outsource and laid off my entire department. Crazy right! During this downtime I kept praying for answers on what to do and even how I should move in life. Boom! One night I had a dream of me in my very own herbal tea shop. There were plants around the space and tons of herbs lined up along the shelves of the store. At the counter there I was, informing and checking out some herbs for a customer related to an issue she was dealing with health wise. When I woke up, there was my “ah ha” moment! I looked around my room and began to notice that everything I needed to get started on my mission was right there in my face. Books regarding the body, computer to research herbs and their benefits. That was all I needed at that time to simply start. I began to study how the body works as an entire system and how different herbs react to each system. Over time I felt it was time to JUST DO IT, no matter how uncomfortable I felt. My business name came to me, Earth Galore, color scheme ideas poured in, and trial runs for the herbal combinations began. Once I felt good about what I had, I began the process of legalizing Earth Galore. This made everything feel really real and boy was I uncomfortable. But I kept going and finally launched Earth Galore 11/22/21 publicly. I didn’t know what to expect but I chose to believe in my vision and take a risk on myself.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hey y’all! I am Rochelle Merriweather and I own an herbal tea company, Earth Galore. Earth Galore is a space where you and many others can come to if you experience any issues with reproductive health, anxiety, digestive issues, mineral deficiency, and cold and flu ailments. I like to take the natural approach to healing our bodies on a complete level mentally, physically, and spiritually. I dove myself into this method of healing from a vision that was revealed to me in a dream at one of my lowest points in life. I actually believe this is what sets me apart from a few others in my field although I am not perfect by any means! What I mean is, I didn’t just think to myself, oh I want to start a tea business. No, I was given this vision from a higher power and took a leap of faith and embarked on this journey. But let me be the one to tell you, this journey was not a breeze by a long shot lol. I have been tested on this path more times than I count from inner things, business awareness, etc. But I had MY key to keep me going, VISION! I have taken Earth Galore beyond selling herbal teas online. I wanted to connect more with people in my community by joining different pop-up shops that resonated with me and my field. I am so proud of myself for doing this as it built more confidence within myself, relationships, and presence. It’s funny because I can be a person of few words but when it comes down to Earth Galore and natural approaches to the body, my mouth doesn’t stop lol. To give you a picture of what Earth Galore has done for me and my body, I have regulated my menstrual cycles. Yes, this was a huge deal for me as I would have a cycle twice a month. Daunting I know! My Feminine tea changed the game for me. Feminine tea targets the reproductive system to shrink cysts and fibroids, cleanse the womb, and generate healthy blood flow to the region. After consistently drinking the herbs for about 1-2 months, I noticed significant changes with my cycles, like regulated cycles once a month, decrease in painful cramps and they weren’t heavy as before. So yessss to Earth Galore!
Have you ever had to pivot?
A time where I had to pivot my business is RIGHT NOW. I am currently revamping my brand to speak authentically to who I am and convey that to my audience in the most simplistic way possible. When I first launched Earth Galore, I had the mindset of just start the business and “perfect” it later. Well, now we’re at the later point lol. As I have grown within myself and have grown within the world of business, it’s time for Earth Galore to evolve and change. By change, I mean to what feels right in my gut. My logo has changed, brand colors have been changed around, my messaging is becoming more personable and even some changes to some of the teas. It’s a process but a much-needed process for sure. I was actually afraid to pause some things but I’m much more excited for what’s to come for Earth Galore with these changes. These changes I am working on will speak more to my audience because it will build relationships with my audience, build an online presence that will stick, and simply thoroughly explain who Earth Galore is, how it can help, and why people need it. Change doesn’t always feel good, but it’s definitely needed for growth!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Whew! A lesson I had to unlearn for me is staying safe/comfortable. What I mean by that is although being comfortable may feel good, it’s actually very damaging to self and business. I had to learn that one the hard way lol. So, I initially thought it was all good to just post a picture of the teas and write captions of its benefits on social media platforms and even the website. Doing this at the time I felt like I was for one posting content and secondly showing up for my audience. WRONG! This felt safe to me but not to my audience, which ultimately was not safe for Earth Galore at all! My audience needed to see me speak about my experiences, speak and show me consuming the teas (on camera), and simply see who this person behind Earth Galore is. Once I began to speak on my experience, show me making the teas, and speaking about the benefits, this boosted engagement with my audience, sales, and even my confidence of putting myself out there even more.
