We caught up with the brilliant and insightful RM April Collins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
RM April, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I am 100% in charge of all my media. Hence why it takes me so long to get everything on the same page sometimes. lol!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Revered Mother April Collins. I am a medium and tarot reader. A medium is like being a telephone to communicate between the living and the dead. I use tarot as a visual for the living. Because most people don’t believe me when I tell them things without a way of proof. I also make teas from herbs to help with ailments and ease some of the symptoms. Or for general enjoyment of herbal teas from fresh, dried herbs.
I have been a Revered Mother for 7 months now. Currently finding my path in which to teach the ways of just being good to each other.
I came up with the name of my business, Thee Magic Mushroom Medium, I wanted to be different. I am a Renaissance Faire goer, participate and vendor (currently). During my participation part of it all, the thought came to mind that I never seen a mushroom style vendor booth. And it would be really awesome to see that. So, since I was playing around with ideas of business names, this became the result. So now, I have a little green gnome house with mushrooms all over it. I am still looking for that mushroom shaped tent, though! lol!
Now that you know how the business and I came together, you’re probably wondering how I became a medium. That’s usually the next thing I get asked. I was born this way. When I was child, I could see and talk to the people on the other side of the veil. The veil is that thin wall between the living and the dead. We all have a veil on in other words to what we don’t see as real. Most simply can’t believe there is another place we go to when leave our bodies. Near death experiences have taught us there is on multiple platforms, whether be religious in nature or not.
My way of thinking and what I’ve been shown by the other side, is a waiting room to your next destination for karmic journey. Some get stuck in places where they have died simply as a warning to what the place was. Some don’t want to leave because they were possessive in life and now possessive in death. Then you have the ones who have finished their karmic journey and became a free spirit to watch over those that are still living in their family. Not every entity is bad. If you’re having something or someone move stuff around, first think, who could it be?

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
My gift of speaking with the dead and just simply knowing things about people and their energy. And seeing as a gift to be shared and not for monetary gain. But, when spirit keeps coming and interrupting your day with headaches, from not listening. You can’t keep a job because you’re always late, due to stopping to tell someone you passed by something their dad wanted them to know. So, after speaking to other mediums and readers about not making it a job for money, they about had a heart attack from shock. They started asking me questions about my “downtime” when I do these “talks” with people. I never had downtime. It comes from my soul naturally. It has never been forced. It flows out of me like water. I get energized if anything else. But, downtime they were thinking was the jobs I missed and money I wasn’t making during that time.
That’s when I realized I had to stop thinking my gift as just a gift but, as a job and put value to myself and my spiritual advice and gift of foresight. Not to mention letting the living know their passed on loved ones are much better than we are. And herbs for teas aren’t cheap either. I have given away teas all the time just because it’s in my nature to help. So, now I’m out there making a living with my talents and gifts.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
There’s two ways to go on the resilience parts of this question. Part one would be to show the gift side.
I was a reader for a really big party once. I didn’t think there was going to be that many people at my table for a reading. Boy was I wrong! I read for 30 people! But, once you’re in that zone, there’s nothing that can stop the flow. But, once it was all over, I almost collapsed in my car.
Part two would be about getting my business started and the journey it took me on.
I’ve given you so many glimpses already into what I’m abut and what I can do. The resilience on that was about faith. Faith in yourself and the universe’s plan that your life has been set on. I would not be here today without it. Hope is another. I have been blessed, even though I had to go through a really rough upbringing, there were people set on my path to help my get through the very hard parts of this life just to get me to here. I thank the universe everyday for the breath in my lungs and another day living. Faith and hope. That’s the staple of my resilience.
