We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Vinson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jennifer, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I have always loved creating. One day, with the help of a do-it-yourself You-Tube video, I struggled through my first attempt at creating a handmade mesh wreath. As frustrating as the first attempt was, I continued fine tuning my wreath making, and eventually loved the results I was seeing. I decided to post some of my finished wreaths online, and I received very positive feedback from family and friends. One of my friends mentioned “Hey, you should start a business” and soon after All Around Charm was born.

The first few years of my business, my focus was on wreaths. Eventually, I came across a string art sign while scrolling through Pinterest. I loved the uniqueness of the sign, and I wanted to try to create one myself. My very first string art sign was a Texas shape and I was hooked. I loved how I could use nails and string to create pictures, and the opportunities for design ideas was endless.

I was nervous to introduce my new string art products online, but I was so excited to see such positive feedback. My business really began to shift from primarily wreath making to a more string art focused business (still with customers able to request custom wreath orders).

As I began receiving more and more custom orders, my amazing husband began playing a huge roll in All Around Charm. He takes on the responsibility of woodworking, staining/painting, drilling nails along with many other day to day tasks. It has been great to work as a team and grow our business.

Jennifer, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I have always loved being creative. When I began All Around Charm, I worked hard to keep improving on my art. Throughout the years, I have found that many people reach out to me to create a piece that is sentimental pertaining to a person, place, or a pet. I love working with my customers to create a unique, one-of-a-kind piece they will cherish for many years to come.

One example of this a recent piece I made. This customer reached out to me to create a string art portrait of her daughter’s pet that recently passed away. She gave the string art piece to her as a birthday gift. My customer sent a video to me of her reaction when opening the gift. She had immediately become overwhelmed with emotion as the many years of memories returned to her seeing the portrait of her beloved puppy. It is stories like these that make me incredibly proud to do this.

I have many people browse my work at markets and online and let me know how a particular string art piece connects them to a special memory. Hearing the stories absolutely make my day!

How’d you meet your business partner?

My partner in my business is my incredible husband. He works so hard and encourages me to step out of my comfort zone each and every day. He is always there to lend a hand during markets and plays a huge role in every step of the creating process. I can come to him with a design idea, and I know he will help make it happen.

As our business grows, the importance of teamwork grows as well. We even include our two year old son in supply runs. He loves to help Mommy and Daddy with their business!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

The most important thing in making the string art pieces that I make is maintaining a high quality of work and a high attention to detail. I get repeat business from customers by maintaining a high standard of work. This leads to repeat business and word of mouth marketing for our products. The best compliment I can receive is a referral to a family or friend!
