Kimia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I had always worked in a space where I knew the outcome of the work I put in right away. Personal fitness training had become a way for me to mold both my own physique as well as my clients. After a 15 year career in fitness training my life had changed courses due to an unexpected illness I was diagnosed with. Graves disease, my doctor told me would be something I would have to scale back on with my heavy work load. The symptoms was I began to experience left me with only a few hours of energy throughout the day. Although I was devastated to realize the news that my career in fitness training was coming to an end, I knew that another opportunity to Create was revealing itself.
With all the time I had on my hands and my small window of energy, I decided to get back in the kitchen, the way I had done as a child.
Creating cookies and cakes and pies was always a place of refuge as a child. During a time of confusion and violence around me as a child I found comfort in Baking. Without a parent to watch my every move freely to create at just 8 years old.
While my body repaired, I went back to baking as a means to resolve some of my pent up energy. The items I started created all were bite sized in effort to keep my calorie consumption down. I thought what if my clients and restaurants would enjoy these? And thats when the Brand Lilbaddies were born
Kimia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My background in fitness training started with myself. I was 100 lbs overweight and needed to desperately get healthy. Over 20 years ago I started my fitness journey and didnt know a thing about how to take care of myself. As I taught myself balance I learned that I was going to always love sugar, but needed to have it in small consumptions if I was to be a fitness trainer and be a health educator as well.
Flash forward into Creating my Brand Lilbaddies, after 15 years of fitness training I named my bakery brand after how I taught my clients. See, I believe that people are mostly Good and we need a little treat or a “LilBaddie” everyday.
The treats name took off and cafes and restaurants really enjoyed the brand and the image behind the brand. Something thats decadent and bite sized to eat everyday was an exciting concept to customers including myself.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One time I spent my last dollar on butter for and order that I knew was important to have out the next day. There’s an element of crazy you feel while putting everything you have into your craft . After finishing the order I realized I had no gas in my car to deliver the order. I panicked, but looked down and just decided to walk the 15 box order a mile to my client. I knew that when the client woke up and received their baked goods at their home they would be happy.
Sometimes making someone happy is all they need anyhow. I knew I could do something and so I did. The same methodology I use to this day. Knowing how much power we have inside our mind and hearts is just enough to get the mission completed.
The very next day that same client bought more boxes of Lilbaddies. The blesssing behind this story was knowing how much I poured into just this one order and seeing the greatness that came out of it
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
