We were lucky to catch up with Andrew & Polly recently and have shared our conversation below.

Andrew & Polly, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?

Our GRAMMY-nominated album “Ahhhhh!” is definitely one of our most meaningful projects because we poured so much of ourselves into it. It’s about the rollercoaster of emotions of childhood and parenthood. Joyous moments, silly fun moments, mental health challenges, reparenting – it’s all in there. The incredible artists who co-wrote and performed these songs with us – we all shared from a really vulnerable place. It’s especially meaningful as a single piece of art and we hope it helps families navigate the tough stuff – because there’s plenty of that and it seems like it just keeps coming!

But another really meaningful project for us is our podcast Ear Snacks, which we’ve been producing for 9-years. Ear Snacks shares the diversity and connectedness of kids’ thoughts and experiences with interviews from kids all over the world, and it’s also a platform for grown-up creators, scientists, educators and enthusiasts to share their expertise with families in a smart, fun and engaging way.

Andrew & Polly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

So we’re Andrew & Polly (the names our mama’s gave us). We live together in a small house in Santa Monica with 3 kids and many overdue library books. And we’ve been making thought-filled, Emmy- and Grammy-nominated music projects together for 20 years.

We combine our talents as multi-instrumentalists, vocalists and audio engineers to compose, produce, record and mix original songs and scores for commercials, kids television, and independent film. We’ve written jingles, theme songs, podcast music, film scores, musical numbers sung by animated trolls – you name it!

What sets us apart is how we think about media for children. As the band Andrew & Polly, we’ve created a brand of GRAMMY®-nominated genre-bending songwriting that is both heartfelt & humorous, reaching millions of families through dozens of #1 hits on SIRIUS XM’s Kids Place Live. We make and host an educational entertainment podcast called Ear Snacks centered around kids voices & ideas.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

Control is a fear response. The more loving, open, curious and flexible you can be as a collaborator, the more joy will spark the process forward.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

We hope that creating valuable content for families will foster more openness, curiosity, empathy and collaboration for the next generation of humans.
