We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vidisha Bajpai Visual Artist. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vidisha Bajpai below.
Vidisha Bajpai, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
In 2018, one of my Indian Folk Art painting was selected in the Texas Visual Art Association show called “Our Roots”. To my surprise, none of the viewers were aware about that art form, even though my painting had earned second place in that art show. I realized that I had to do something to promote Indian Folk Art on a much bigger platform. Since then, I have been exhibiting my Indian Folk Art paintings at various big venues like city museums, galleries , Art Centers, Orange County Mayor’s Administrative building, Orlando international airport, etc. that has resulted in heightened awareness and outreach from art enthusiasts to learn more about the rich heritage and culture behind my art work. Finally, this journey also inspired me to write a book about this art form, and I hope to publish it soon.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a self taught visual artist based in Orlando,FL . Painting is a spiritual journey for me wherein each of my artwork reflects my love and passion – it’s like meditation. I love to work with oil and acrylic paints. I have been painting since I was 5 years old and I have been teaching art for over a decade now. I have worked on abstract art, Indian folk art,Tuscany art. My work has been exhibited at various art shows and galleries like Orlando Museum of Art , Orlando International Airport (MCO), Fusion Fest at Dr Phillips Convention Center, The Orlando Shakespeare Theater, Dallas Bishop Arts District, Frisco Discovery Center, McKinney Performing Art Center, Irving Art Center, Dallas Latino Cultural Center , Bath House Cultural Center, Charles W. I love donating my artwork for good causes to various charities, and I have donated my work within the Dallas metroplex and Central Florida. For past few years , I have been focusing on promoting Indian folk arts like Madhubani , Gond art, Pichwai and Warli art. These are some of the folk art forms practiced in rural India since ancient times. I like to stay involved with our community, spreading peace and love through arts. The vast majority of my work is very colorful as I believe that colors bring joy to life, and they have the power to fill life with beauty, love, and peace. Outside of my world of Art, I have take the time to pursue some of my personal interests. I was crowned Mrs. Orlando America 2022 and competed in the Mrs. Florida America 2022 beauty pageant as well. I am part of the Leadership Council of the Indian American Chamber of Commerce in Orlando, and have been leading several community initiatives. I also have the experience of chairing committees in many Non Profits organizations.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the freedom of expression. Art is such a powerful tool to express yourself and it can be used to empower and help other people. For past few years , I have been working hard to raise the awareness of the Indian Folk Art by exhibiting my paintings at prestigious exhibitions and conducting art workshops at Art Fairs. I love serving our community by participating in the events organized by Non Profit organizations, as well as creating artwork and donating it to charitable organizations for fund raising efforts. I get immense joy in donating my artwork for charitable causes. So far, I have helped following charities: Indian American Chamber of Commerce Annual Ashoka Awards Gala, American Heart Association, Kids Beating Cancer, Power of the Purse organized by Central Florida Women’s League to raise funds for the scholarships for the underprivileged high school girls, Festival of Trees and Art in Bloom organized by the Council of 101 to raise funds for Orlando Museum of Art, Shakthi Gala to help victims of domestic violence in Central Florida, Love and Hope Gala organized by Community Enrichment Center, Grace Grapevine, Spring Luncheon organized by Southlake Women’s club, Wild Flower Luncheon organized by the Garden Club of Frisco to raise scholarships for students who want to pursue Horticulture studies in college, donated my painting to Southlake Chamber of Commerce Annual fundraising awards dinner event, Southlake Women’s Club, House of Shine in Southlake TX, United Health Resources Annual Gala , SEWA DFW organized Diwali dinner to raise funds for Hurricane Harvey victims.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I am an artist with heart to serve others through my talent. It’s a driving force for me. I am fortunate that I have been blessed with this talent, and using my talent to help others completes me and gives a beautiful meaning to life. For past few years, I have been practicing Indian folk art, which has been practiced by women in rural India since ancient times. It’s their only way of earning their livelihoods, hence these art forms are the source of empowering underprivileged women in several small towns in India and Southeast Asia. This art form not only provides livelihood to the rural people, but also represents the richness of Indian Culture and Heritage.
Being an art philanthropist, I feel responsible to introduce these beautiful art forms and promote them on a global platform. I love to share my talent with others, and I have been conducting art classes, in-person and online, for the last seven years. Seeing that absolute awe in my students when they create something that they have never imagined gives me tremendous joy. I love to help others find their joy through painting.
