We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jevon Wooden. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jevon below.
Jevon, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
The vision for the legacy is deeply rooted in empowering and uplifting minority, veteran, and women-owned businesses. I aim to help at least one million of these businesses generate six figures or more in annual profit. This ambition isn’t just about financial gain; it’s about establishing generational wealth and fostering a cycle of prosperity and opportunity within communities historically facing economic growth barriers.
After I’m gone, I hope people will say that I was a catalyst for positive change, someone who used his skills, experience, and passion to make a tangible difference in the world. I want to be remembered as a leader who didn’t just talk about change but actively worked to create it. My aim is to leave a legacy of inspiration, showing that with the proper guidance, resources, and mindset, substantial obstacles can be overcome, and dreams can be realized.
I envision being remembered as someone who stood for resilience, innovation, and genuine support for those striving to reach their potential. By leveraging my background as an Army veteran and my expertise in business growth and personal development, I want to be seen as someone who bridged the gap between ambition and achievement for countless entrepreneurs.
Ultimately, I hope to be remembered for my commitment to fostering leadership and growth in businesses and the individuals behind them. My legacy will create a lasting impact beyond mere financial success and extend into enriching lives, strengthening communities, and empowering future generations to continue the cycle of positive change.

As an Army veteran, my experiences in the military honed my leadership skills, resilience, and strategic thinking. Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One significant lesson I had to unlearn was the notion of always competing instead of collaborating. Growing up in Rochester, NY, the environment and culture often emphasized competition, whether in school, sports, or everyday life. This competitive mindset was ingrained in me from a young age, and I carried it into my early career.
However, as I progressed in my professional journey, especially with my experiences in the military and later in the business world, I realized the limitations of this approach. The military taught me the value of teamwork and how collaboration is beneficial and essential for success in many situations. In the army, the focus is on the collective goal and how each individual’s strengths contribute to achieving that goal.
This lesson became even more apparent when I transitioned into the business world. I learned that fostering collaboration, building networks, and creating partnerships could lead to more significant accomplishments than going alone. This was especially true in entrepreneurship, where sharing knowledge, resources, and expertise often leads to better outcomes for all parties involved.
Unlearning the habit of competing and embracing collaboration has been a transformative experience. It has allowed me to build meaningful relationships, develop a broader perspective, and achieve more significant impact through my work. This shift from competition to collaboration is a principle that I now actively promote through BrightMind Consulting Group, emphasizing the power of collective effort and shared success.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I started my business, like many entrepreneurs, I was influenced by the advice of various experts who advocated the importance of being present on multiple social media platforms. Initially, I tried to maintain a presence everywhere – from Facebook and Twitter to Instagram and LinkedIn. However, I quickly realized that this approach was unsustainable and less effective than I had hoped.
I learned that focus and consistency are key to building a meaningful and engaged audience. Instead of spreading myself thin across multiple platforms, I concentrated my efforts primarily on LinkedIn. This platform was more aligned with my business goals and target audience: professionals, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers.
On LinkedIn, I shifted my strategy to focus on creating high-quality content that provided real value to my audience. Instead of just posting for the sake of posting, I started sharing insights, experiences, and knowledge that resonated with my audience’s interests and needs. This approach helped me establish myself as a thought leader and trusted advisor in my field.
I also implemented a more proactive outreach strategy. Instead of waiting for connections to happen organically, I began actively reaching out to potential clients and decision-makers who could benefit from my services. This involved personalized messaging, engaging in relevant discussions, and participating in LinkedIn groups related to my industry.
I advise those just starting to build their social media presence to focus on quality over quantity. Find the platform that best suits your audience and goals, and concentrate your efforts there. Consistency is crucial – regularly post content that adds value and engages your audience. Be authentic in your interactions, and remember that building a social media presence is a marathon, not a sprint.
Lastly, take into account the power of networking and outreach. Social media is not just a broadcasting tool; it’s a platform for building relationships. Connect with people who can help you grow your business, learn from them, and find ways to collaborate. You can build a strong and loyal social media following with focus, consistency, and a strategy tailored to your audience.
