We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jonois Fox a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jonois, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
I received the vision to open up a home healthcare agency in a dream. After receiving the vision, I began to research what it took and immediately went to action. Starting with a home care agency. I along with a counterpart began writing policies & procedures while learning what we wanted our business model and structure to look like. I remember thinking what would I name my business and God told me A Joyous Kare. Though I did not understand at the very moment, my children by age walked into my bedroom. It hit me that God named the business after my children’s initials.
I set up the business essentials and searched for mentors. To no assist with mentors in the field we were able to be approved as a business in the state of Indiana. From there we started out as private pay and then moved into state funded programs to make ourselves more marketable. We were approved with state funded programs and have become one of the ringing names in the state of Indiana for in-home personal care. The process of starting was one of the hardest things yet as I was clueless to the industry and what all it entailed. I funded my business start up, have worked my business as an onsite employee, covered call ins and handled all behind the scenes to ensure an effective business was run.
I worked my full time corporate job and my business day in and out to get the business where it began running itself. I remember my brother Keith saying to me are you ready for what you asked God for and I answered him with yes. However, as I started to get what I asked God for I realized that we did not have enough staff to handle the overflow of clients we had been blessed with. That is when we went into overdrive with hiring non stop. We lived and breathed interviews daily while hiring and trying to retain the right employees. The one thing I always want to keep in mind is the client and then the employees. I am nothing without any of them! I want us to continue to Enhance The Lives of Others Daily!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Jonois’ Fox, a Gary, IN native, who attended Indiana State University for my undergraduate degree and Cornerstone University for my graduate degree. Upon graduation from ISU, I started my career as an Executive of Assets Protection with Target Corporation. Being very driven in that position and a sponge I was promoted and moved to the state of Michigan as an Executive of Human Resources. While living in Michigan, I was able to learn my strength as I did not know anyone and had to manage a high-volume store. During my tenure in Michigan, I was able to spearhead the diversity campaign and create everlasting relationships and footsteps for many to follow. After 2 years in Michigan, I was sent back to Indiana to take on a challenging location which turns out to be one of my favorite locations to manage.
I started my family and felt the need to venture out to a greater purpose of work life balance after giving Target 8 years of my career life. I decided to spend more time with my children until life called me back to the workforce months later. I continued for several more years building in Corporate America until I couldn’t sit with my vision any longer.
After realizing that I was called to do a greater good and live my dreams I started to notice it was time to take action on what God placed on my heart. In 2017 it was placed on my heart to help find the right care for my godson who is also my nephew. It was challenging for his parents while I witnessed it firsthand, and vowed to be able to give him the love and care he deserves. My grandmother who was 95 years old at the time and in great health was approaching a greater hands-on need. She knew she could call and count on me at any time and I would be there.
I love knowing that I can comfort and care for these 2 and many more!  God gave me a big heart.  I then prayed and God revealed to me it was time to birth a new baby, my very own business!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
After several sleepless nights of reading up on the business industry and understanding what our niche would be to set us apart, I continued writing policies & procedures to build the brand that we have today. Home Care is not for the weak. You have to love what you do and be an ever changing driver to deliver compassionate care.
With our family atmosphere we spend quality time educating many clients, families and prospective clients on the benefits of having in-home care, the services available, funding available and providing affordable rates for services. We make ourselves visible in our communities and foster an open door culture for all.
We are most proud of being able to withstand covid, provide efficient and consistent service that exceeds our clients and families expectations. We provide round the clock care with a smile. Our primary focus is to enhance the quality of life of our clients while they remain in the comfort of their homes. We pride ourselves on growing all over the state of Indiana with top quality care. The vast majority of our clients have come by word of mouth which speaks great volumes. We became the provider who families could trust.  This is one of the greatest feelings that we have,  a company name that is one to be proud of.  If you choose A Joyous Kare we want you to know that we hear you and we are ready to serve you with quality care and compassion. You truly become apart of our family.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When covid took us all by storm we declined in our business due to the global emergency. That emergency caused all businesses to shut down for a period of time which impacted our clients receiving care, staff out of work and our business at halt. We had to get creative with our industry to continue to uphold our reputation and company promise. At this point we began telehealth visits and drive bys to visit our clients who wanted our services. We began implementing covid vaccine procedures to have our employees vaccinated and to deliver safe compassion and care with our clients and families. We were able to break the mold by building trust with the families we served, allowing our clientele to quadruple during the pandemic which was an amazing feeling.
