We caught up with the brilliant and insightful We’re There Films a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
We’re There , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you identified some of your key partners/vendors and how you made those relationships work?
At We’re There Films, our collaboration process is shaped by on-set experiences and trial and error. Our recent project, “Bloody Vamps,” a television series proof of concept, involved working with past collaborators and outreach, guided by references and our vetting process. Building a foundation for a healthy production is crucial, especially when starting out. To address challenges like undefined roles and varying personalities, we established a vetting system. This ensures a set culture that fosters the best ideas, true collaboration, and an enjoyable work-hard-play-hard environment.

We’re There , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a dynamic production company led by a visionary duo of impassioned actors who have made it our mission to share compelling narratives that challenge the status quo, champion underrepresented voices, and inspire transformation. We’re There is a female-led company that has boldly carved out its own space at the table to ignite a dialogue that matters. With an unwavering commitment to inclusivity and a creative vision that knows no bounds, we are inviting others to join us in a movement that transforms the way we think, feel, and engage with the world. We are a tenacious and gritty team of storytellers who bring authenticity and nuance to every project we undertake. At We’re There, our dedication to storytelling is not just a mission, it’s a calling.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
During our recent Bloody Vamps shoot, we booked a space on Giggster for a 12-hour day. The night before, the owner requested a call time shift and proof of insurance. Luckily the call time shift was a breeze, but the insurance snag threatened to ruin the day. However, with quick thinking and problem solving, we found a company, paid a premium, and saved the day. Lesson learned: read the fine print and get your insurance ducks in a row well before the day before!

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Before launching our production company, we cut our teeth as servers in LA’s high-end restaurants, immersing ourselves in a culture that demanded presence, collaboration, and exceeding guest and establishment expectations. The hustle and flow of the restaurant world surprisingly parallel the dynamic nature of producing and on-set production.
Having weathered the highs and lows of hospitality, we gained insights into how we wanted to run a set. When working on Bloody Vamps, our priority was establishing sync and maintaining a healthy set environment. We initiated heads of department check-ins, safety meetings, and a circle where every voice felt seen and heard.
In our eyes, every position holds significance, and our commitment is to ensure everyone has what they need not only to execute their role efficiently but also with ease. It’s the blend of our restaurant hustle experiences and our dedication to fostering a collaborative and supportive set that defines our approach at We’re There Films.
