Nkeiruka (Nk), thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?

Absolutely, I’ve been fortunate to turn my passion into a full-time living. After leaving my part-time job at Dyson, I immersed myself in networking and self-promotion. Gradually gaining recognition, viral dance videos propelled my brand, leading to collaborations with major brands and celebrities. My joy lies in entertaining people, which prompted me to diversify my content beyond dance.

Monetizing my social media platforms became a significant milestone in my journey. Through consistent effort, skill refinement, and adaptability, I successfully turned my creative work into a source of income. While it wasn’t an overnight success, reflecting on progress, learning from experiences, and continuous improvement have contributed to lasting success. Trusting in divine timing, I don’t believe I could have expedited the process, as success demanded its own pace.

I’m Nkeiruka Igbonagwam, also known as Nk, originally from Nigeria and currently residing in LA. I’m a dynamic entrepreneur and versatile artist with a background in dance, choreography, and acting. As an Afrobeats dance instructor, influencer, and content creator, I’ve had the privilege of working with renowned artists like Chris Brown, Davido, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, T-Pain, and Cardi B.

My performances have graced prestigious stages, including the BET Awards and BET Soul Train Awards, and I’ve gained recognition through appearances on TV shows such as Let’s Make a Deal on CBS, So You Think You Can Dance on FOX, and featured in an interview with VoyageLA. I’ve become a viral sensation, captivating the entertainment world with my incredible talents, charismatic personality, and vibrant energy.

I’ve been self-employed since 2017. Taking charge of my journey, I’ve learned that discipline is crucial for success. Adhering to a structured schedule, setting daily goals, and prioritizing tasks have been key in navigating the self-employed landscape. In terms of my ventures, I’m the CEO and founder of Castedbynk and TastetCollections. Castedbynk is a casting agency dedicated to supporting the community and offering opportunities for undiscovered talents deserving recognition. TastetCollections, my cosmetic line, currently features luxury lip glosses and color-changing lip oils, with plans to expand to other products in the future, God willing. Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

In building my social media presence, I began with consistent collaboration and daily posting. Don’t fear rejection; reaching out for collaborations is key. Embrace unconventional ideas, they often lead to success. Trust your instincts.

Consistency and authenticity drive audience engagement. Share content reflecting your true self, actively engage with your audience, and build a community.

Patience is crucial; success takes time. Stay true to yourself, wait for your moment, and success will follow.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

The ability to bring imagination to life and evoke emotions. Creating something from nothing, whether it’s a painting, a piece of music, or a written work, provides a profound sense of accomplishment. The ability to express unique perspectives and connect with others on a deep, emotional level is immensely fulfilling. Additionally, witnessing the impact of one’s creations on the audience, whether through inspiration, reflection, or resonance, adds a layer of satisfaction that makes the artistic journey truly rewarding.
