We were lucky to catch up with Emily Judd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Emily, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Some major trends I see coming in the wellness industry is more of a holistic approach to health and longevity. Which is why I have built my business around a holistic approach to fitness & wellness. There are so many parts to wellness and we can’t have one without the balance of another. I also see more of a focus (finally!) and research on women’s health, particularly women over 45. This is beyond overdue and will be a game-changer for women. We’ve long been overlooked in medical studies. The launch of the Initiative on Women’s Health Research by First Lady Jill Biden is a step in the right direction. “The new Initiative will fundamentally change how we approach and fund women’s health research, and pioneer the next generation of discoveries in women’s health. This will help close research gaps and improve women’s health.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Pilates practitioner who developed the Pilates Fusion method as a way to make Pilates more accessible to everyone. This method focuses on challenging yet sustainable fitness, which is so important for aging and longevity. I felt there was a gap in the Pilates industry for accessibility and inclusion. Pilates has long been known as a prestigious fitness modality for the upper class and I wanted to change that. I wanted to bring it into people’s homes in an affordable way so everyone could experience its benefits. I also love helping postpartum women heal and strengthen their bodies after baby, as well as providing confidence! Having a home Pilates program available anytime, anywhere is very helpful for new moms, I know because I’ve been there twice with two kids of my own! I am also a Certified Holistic Nutrition & Wellness Coach, specializing in hormone health. I began my journey in holistic wellness as a way to overcome my own personal battles with disordered eating patterns and debilitating anxiety. I knew I could feel my best through nutrition, movement, and healthy wellness practices, so I set out to heal myself and of course all of my amazing clients. I work one one-on-one with clients looking to improve their health in a holistic way through diet, wellness routines, and of course Pilates! I hope to inspire and share all of my years of study and knowledge with my clients to get them on a path to feeling their best inside and out.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency, Consistency, Consistency!! Social media requires a lot of dedication and transparency. The more you can be open and share your story the more people will connect with you. And being able and willing to do that every day will build a strong community. Also, I think it’s important to focus on building an engaged and supportive community, not just a large community. A smaller more loyal audience goes a LONG way, especially if you plan to sell to them at some point. My focus when I started was just that, to connect with like-minded people and hopefully offer them some valuable information along the way. It evolved organically into a business with the hit of the pandemic where I saw the need for cost-effective home fitness for all bodies. As my knowledge and practice have evolved I have begun to offer more including holistic nutrition & wellness packages. If you’re not continually evolving and growing you will lose your audience! Stay ahead of the curve and always keep learning something new!

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
This was exactly what happened to me! Truthfully I never set out to have a full blow business. I was a stay-at-home mom who decided to teach Pilates on the side because I loved it so much and needed an outlet. Teaching then progressed to sharing it on social media, which then progressed into a business. It’s been a wonderful but also very difficult journey. I’ve had to make so many mistakes and learn along the way!
