We were lucky to catch up with Mariah Jackson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mariah , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I believe the most defining moment in my career as a Reiki practitioner would be the day my sister passed away. Needless to say, I was devastated. My world shifted that day and I remember feeling the shift before I even received the call. I was on my way to drop my daughter off at school and we both admired how weird yet, beautiful the clouds were. It looked like a portal in the sky but the feeling that washed over me was indescribable. The day was gloomy and dark but the clouds brought me peace. It was like my sister sent me a special goodbye before she chose to be with God.
Although Reiki is not attached to any religion, it is very spiritual. I remember being at my sister’s bedside in the hospital and stroking her hair while praying and doing reiki over her. My will was to see my sister walk out of the hospital. I never accounted for her or God’s will, however. Although I trusted God’s plan, I didn’t see that plan being that I would continue life without her physically here with me.
As I began the grieving process, every emotion came to the surface. How could God take away one of the most important people in my life? Why my sister? As much as I prayed and said that I trusted God and the plan, I was just as angry. On top of that, I knew and applied all the tools to help me regain balance, and I still was struggling. I wanted everything to be better quickly. That only happens with time though no matter how many modalities you use to aid your healing. I tuned into God more than ever for understanding and peace within my heart.
The passing of my sister shifted my way of thinking and the way I practice Reiki today. I don’t want anyone to think I don’t struggle and no one on this Earth is exempt from pain. The key to healing is dropping your expectancy. Allow the ups and downs to happen while extending yourself grace and love. When you have a reiki session, understand your healing goes beyond the practitioner. Reiki is not a golden elixir to supreme balance. You have to do the work and be dedicated to exploring all parts of yourself that may need adjustment. Please know that with time, things do get better and the bounce back becomes easier the more you expand your consciousness.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Mariah and I’m a certified Reiki Practitioner operating under the name Sync’d Life. I help those who are ready to begin their healing journey by highlighting any potential blockages so that you may begin to fully step into your power.
Reiki is a gentle hands-on energy technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. You can also reap benefits such as relieving pain and discomfort, strengthening your immune system, balancing your energy and chakras, and improving sleep. Since it is an energy technique, it can be done either in person or at a distance. The only thing you have to do when receiving reiki is be open to receiving.
I started doing reiki as I was on my journey of self-love and healing trauma. You can say I was going through a “spiritual awakening”. Everything in my life shifted. I was wrapping up relationship cycles that didn’t serve me and stepping into this new sense of power for myself. I was transforming in my little cocoon and then one day I decided to pop out like the beautiful butterfly I always was or never knew I could be again. Coming back to yourself is such a joyous moment. I had to let go of all the things I was taught and programmed to believe as a child. Although the journey is never-ending, I love going through the level-ups. Transformation is beautiful.
Reiki is the perfect modality to add to your self-care routine. In my sessions, I go over each chakra and let you know if any blocked chakras are hindering your growth. If I receive intuitive messages, I will relay those to you as well. I also recommend reiki if you are looking to expedite the healing process after a surgical procedure. We pray and set your intentions before beginning each session. There are no limitations to what reiki can do for the individual because everyone’s experience will be different based on their physical, mental, or spiritual needs.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I have a very religious family with preachers and avid churchgoers. When I started to practice Reiki, divination, and more spiritual practices, I knew I was going to be judged. Not only by my family but by anyone with a limited belief system. I grew up within the church so naturally anything outside of that is tokened as “the devil’s work.” I wholeheartedly laugh at that now because how can anyone speak on your relationship with God?
I use to correlate my relationship with God to religion. This was the biggest thing I had to unlearn. My relationship with God is in no way attached to religion. It’s even stronger now that I don’t attach myself to that ideology. I remember being afraid to be open about my non-attachment to what my family believes and choosing to go down my spiritual path. As much as it hurt me to be judged by the ones who knew my spirit, I pushed through with my business and the plan I was given by God. I started to post about my spiritual practices more openly and the messages I received regardless of what anyone may think. When you’re given a vision, it’s only for you and God to understand. You don’t need validation from anyone else to move forward.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The biggest thing that has helped me build my reputation is simply letting it be known what I do and being my authentic self. I don’t wrap my identity around being a “healer”. I’ve grown to dislike that term. In no way am I a healer, God is healing though. I’m only a channel to help facilitate the healing process which is why all my sessions are rooted in prayer and God’s will. Also, you can’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Before anyone else can trust your vision, you have to trust it yourself. Be confident in your capabilities and talk your shit. It’s all love and light over here, but I also love a little razzle-dazzle in my life. We can talk about chakras, and all things spiritual then switch to parenting and favorite place to go for happy hour. Everything in life is about balance and want my clientele to see all sides of me.
