Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Taylor Sanchez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Taylor, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you have any thoughts about how to create a more inclusive workplace?
Having an inclusive workspace is so important to me. At my salon, hair cuts are just hair cuts. The mission here at Hair by Taylor Sanchez is to have a place where all members of LGBTQIA+ community and allies are able to feel relaxed, safe, and most importantly; themselves. While the salon is registered with Strands for Trans, it doesn’t stop there. All consultations that are held in person or over the phone are very in-depth considering all things not only surrounding your hair, but your lifestyle as well.
We welcome all walks of life here at Hair by Taylor Sanchez, so pull up a chair and I’ll hand you a cool glass of champagne and lets discuss your hair and what makes it authentically you!

Taylor, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the industry of hair kind of on a whim. I went to Bellus Academy in Poway, not really even sure if I wanted to do hair. But once I got started, I couldn’t stop. Hair is my life now. I enjoy every aspect of hair and all the things you can do with it!
After Bellus, I was an assistant at Atelier Aucoin Salons in La Jolla. Working my way up the ladder to booth rent. After being there for almost a year and a half I did have to take a break. To spare the details, I was in an car accident and need to take two years off to recover and get back on my feet.
Getting back into the industry was the toughest part of my career, to date. I had just healed my injuries from the accident, I had no clients, and no place to work. The injuries had left me in a position where I was not able to go back to assisting full time, or even booth rent full time. So I did what made the most sense for me at the time. I started my own Traveling Stylist business. To get my foot back in the door, I promoted myself as a Wedding Beauty Consultant for the first year of my little business. I would travel out to wedding locations and venues to do hair and makeup for all the lovely Nearlyweds. As that business started to grow, so did my clientele. I soon had wedding clients reaching out to me for hair cuts, color, you name it. From there I started booth renting a chair from a fellow stylist in the Pheniox Salon suits.
Having a place to do all kinds of services is what really kicked things into gear. I was at the Phoenix Salon Suites for about six months before I realized I needed a place to call my own. So I packed up, found a suite at the Sola Salons and called that home. I just celebrate my one year anniversary of being there!
Here at Hair by Taylor Sanchez, we offer all sorts of services. While I still travel for weddings, (I recently had the pleasure of traveling to Chicago for one!) I now offer full and partial blonding services, haircuts, extensions and our newest and most popular Revitalize service. Where you can pick a treatment of your choice, like a hydrating jelly mask, relax with a complementary drink, while you get your hair shampooed, treated, and styled.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social Media is so huge for people in my industry. Most of my clientele is from social media itself. It’s really easy to take pretty pictures of hair and post it. But what is not easy, is giving a reason to new, and current, clients on why they should pick you and to continue to pick you to do you hair.
Hairstylists on social media can’t just get away with posting a photo with the caption “pretty blonde for summer” anymore. I have noticed in my social media endeavors, that viewers (or followers) want to be engaged. They want to learn something, and they want to feel special. I started my page by just posting what I did that day, and said “thank you for your trust.” And now not only do I continue to say that, I also talk about the differences between my different blonding services, or product spotlight, or even as small as how to take care of your hair at home!
And honestly, a lot of my engagement on social media is just being honest with my people. I tell the truth and I have gained a lot of clients from that sort of thought process. I feel like now, people don’t want the watered down version of hair. They want the cold hard truth, of what it takes to take care of it, and why things are done certain ways. I have had many people book from my Instagram or website and tell me that they picked me and liked me because of how honest I am.
Social Media needs to be organic, and that is how I run it. I always like to say, as long as you are genuine you will receive that same kind of love you give out back.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Finding a way to keep in touch with clients was always so difficult for me. I hopped around from service to service, because I couldn’t find something that would help me with my large clientele base. I wanted something that would send confirmation texts, ask them via email or text if they would like to reschedule, and of course to ask for reviews. I found myself spending way too much time doing the behind the scenes things, I couldn’t be in the moment with my clients. I soon found GlossGenius and since then my life regarding keeping in touch with clients has been so easy. It really is a one stop shop.
Now I can spend more time in person with my clients, and fostering a connection through consultations and service appointments. I have found that using the app and connecting one on one with my clients has created the best kind of loyalty. I like all of the appointments to feel like you are hanging out with a friend, not with a services provider.
With the help of my little app, I now have the time to reach out when I know a client hasn’t been feeling well, or to reach out after a wedding to ask how their new married life is going! My clients have loved this new change and every new client I receive always complements this factor and tell me they cant find it anywhere else.
