We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Keith Miner . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Keith below.
Keith, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Risen BJJ & Fitness’s mission has and always will be driven on community and accountability. When you have community and accountability it becomes easier to attain the goals that each individual has for their path in BJJ and/or fitness. This is meaningful to us because it allows our team members to grow in so many aspects of their journey, not just in BJJ/Fitness. As they grow they always have other, teammate’s and coaches, who are there to help them and push them towards those goals. We are passionate about helping people not only reach their goals but also be a part of a community.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
All of our instructors have spent many years fine tuning their craft. Our BJJ professors have been training, competing and coaching for over 10 years. Our women’s fitness trainer has over 7 years of experience coaching and developing programs that have helped our members see results. Together our gym has created an awesome community of members that are all working together to encourage each other and crush goals. Our women’s HIIT program runs during kids Jiu Jitsu class allowing for Mom’s to be able to get a great workout in while their kids are learning Jiu Jitsu and having fun. Our adult classes follow immediately after which also allows some families to come to the gym together. We believe that this is part of what sets us apart along with the fact that our coaches truly care about our members. We are most proud of the community that has come from day one of the opening of our gym. It’s family friendly and our members are welcoming and always encouraging each other. We are all growing together. That’s what we want potential clients to know – that when you come to our gym you are a part of a community.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Being in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Fitness industry is full of stories of resiliency because it’s hard to get to where you can coach without conquering some “quit mindset”. Any time I have trained BJJ or worked out I have had that little voice pop in my head and say things like, “Why are we doing this?”, “This sucks, let’s stop!”, “We seriously have more rounds!” and it’s in those moments I have had to press on and push myself through. I believe it’s in those moments of wanting to quit or being uncomfortable that you start to create the strength and resiliency you need to keep growing, and when you do that over and over again you become confident and steadfast in your strength and knowledge and ability to help others do the same.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been developing relationships with our members and truly caring about them. Word of mouth marketing is how we have been able to grow our gym. Many of our members have brought other family members and friends. That is the best compliment you can get as a business owner in my opinion.
