We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaron Wallace a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jaron thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
This is an interesting question! I suppose I‘ve always sensed that art was something I wanted to create. For as long as I can remember. Now turning art into a career? That’s not something I started to consider a real option until halfway through college.
Originally, I was all set to major in History, maybe I would teach? I could find satisfaction in that work. Doesn’t mean I can’t have some fun with my elective courses. So I loaded up on theatre, writing, and film classes. These were the classes I looked forward to, excited to attend and knock out my assignments. It was starting to make sense. This is what I needed to be doing. So I shifted gears. I double majored in Theatre and Digital Media.
Since graduation, I have been fortunate enough to cement myself in the both worlds and build a career doing what I love.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jaron Wallace, I’m 35 years old, and I am a filmmaker and actor based out of Jacksonville, Florida.
I’ began studying acting in middle school, and filmmaking in college. Since graduation I’ve be fortunate enough to lock in to the freelance film world we have down here in the south. From feature films to government contracts to wedding videography to music videos, I’ve done it all.
Opting for the freelance lifestyle certainly presents ups and downs(especially on the financial side), but it has offered me so much room for growth and plenty of travel(always a good time)!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
This is tough to answer.. I feel as if I can reply with several of various responses. But I’m going to go with my gut here and choose this one: the cathartic release that comes after feeling an emotion, visualizing that feeling in the form of a story, and finally bringing it to life- all in hopes of connecting to an audience while relieving your own mind.
Human connection.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
It’s so rare to land a career that doesn’t feel like a job. What’s the old adage? “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life”.
Now the mission is to maintain the goal!
