We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Angela Huling a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, thanks for joining us today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
As a small business owner, I’m focused on creating relationships through fashion & fun. We host monthly Sip & Shops where all customers are invited and encouraged to bring their friends. We serve drinks, have sales & giveaways and mingle with other ladies. Everyone looks forward to these monthly events as we provide a place to relax and have fun. Recently we hosted our 6th Annual Christmas Party where we had giveaways throughout the party. We gifted 18 ladies a Christmas gift, all giveaways totaled over $1000. And in March we will celebrate turning 6 years old with a Birthday Party and more giveaways. We want our customers to feel special and more like friends.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Turquoise Peacock Boutique was started in March 2018 during a big change in my life. The spiritual meaning of a peacock includes beauty and new beginnings. Our graphic tees were our first product and still to this day we continue to offer unique tees. We also offer shoes and accessories including jewelry and purses plus we have a small selection of gifts.
We started as an in home boutique in Cedar Park hosting Private Parties for my friends and their friends. The hostess would receive free or discounted clothes as hostess rewards. I love creating relationships with new people and parties are my favorite! At the end of 2018 we purchased a mobile boutique trailer which gave me the opportunity to expand my business on the road. We began “popping up” at local events including outdoor markets. In 2020, we had to shift our business and began having “Driveway Parties” where a friend would host the private party and invite her neighbors and friends plus the guys could hang out in the garage while the ladies shopped. This kept my business alive during the pandemic and kept us meeting new ladies and forming friendships. In July 2021, we moved the boutique to a brick & mortar in Leander. Initially we thought we would be open for private appointments and local website orders could be picked up, but that has turned into being open almost daily. I have several friends who help me during our monthly sipnshops and it truly feels like a girls happy hour and I love that we can create that environment for ladies in our community. I feel we have built a great group of ladies who follow us and support my business.
I want each and every lady who shops the Peacock to feel good about what they wear and how they feel when wearing our clothes. We want to be comfortable too! So our clothes are soft and comfy and still make you look great while you are running errands or on a date.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media is my most challenging part of my job. I have to come up with creative ways to grow my audience on social media where I take my own photos as well as modeling the clothes. I have a facebook group which is private, meaning we only allow women to join. I have weekly LIVES to show new arrivals, I post daily sales or giveaways or just general information about our products. Our facebook group is a little community that has become friends over the past 6 years. I”m still growing my instagram account, but my main focus is my facebook group as that is where most of my customers are.
My advice on social media, it doesn’t matter how many followers you have, it just takes one person to make a sale and the it grows from there.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
I sell on my website www.turquoisepeacockboutique.com only. The pro to that is it’s all in one place, my inventory is managed through my website . The con to it, is just getting your website in front of my audience. I advertise, but not all advertising is created equal, so I am continually learning what works and what doesn’t
