We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dennasia Dixon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dennasia, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The word “influencer” is used too loosely. With social media becoming the leading way to expand your brand and business, it has become a lot easier for people to catch the attention of the mass and gain them as followers. Trends have become a big part of society and everyone is trying to follow them. I want to show the world that you can still be YOU and promote healthy practices because that’s what matters most. I feel influencers play a tremendous part in the way that people treat eachother and portray themselves. The world is lacking love and acts of service. My mission is to make people take off of the mask they are hiding behind trying to fit in and be open to express themselves and be who they truly are and want to become. The world is your stage and you can be whoever you want to be. A lot of people feel limited because in order to be cool, you have to do what’s popular… which isn’t true. Social media has made it so easy for people to publicly judge and bash others and it’s becoming a toxic environment. If we use it for all the right reasons and uplift one another we can all thrive. My mission is to change lives, uplift others, and motivate others to be kind and genuine people.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Social media is growing rapidly and now more than ever is the best time to grow your platform in able to use your voice. I started off with dreams of wanting to become a successful YouTuber. I idolized the life and reach that YouTubers had. Millions of people watching you! I spent long nights editing and promoting my videos. After countless follow for follows I finally hit 1,000 subscribers. This didn’t feel genuine. I realized I needed a support base who would like me for me and truly took interest in who I am and my lifestyle. I decided to grow my platforms elsewhere and try to convert those followers into subscribers! Here, 24,000 followers later, I feel like I don’t have to make videos that I think other people would like… I can create content that I love to make because this is when most confident and at my best. It felt more like a hobby than a task. I’m inspired by YouTubers such as Ron Doug who makes lifestyle content with phenomenal editing, Chanel Richie who uses her platform and success to inspire others, and Kendall Rae who makes murder mystery videos shedding light on cases and their possible theories. I think what sets me apart from others is that I don’t copy what I see, I get inspired! I take what I see and I’m like “I like what you did there!” and it motivates me to make the type of content I’m into! Which means doing my own research and planning on how I want my video to go. I want everyone to know that we are all a work in progress. I am, you are, your neighbor is, etc. It’s okay not to have everything together and on my YouTube channel that’s really the message I want to send. Experience is the best teacher and growth is the best motivator. When you’re working out the one thing that will keep pushing you is seeing the growth in the areas you’re aiming for! It takes self discipline to keep you going before you see the growth. These are a few key things I like to emphasize on throughout my social media platforms! Your life is your book and you write the story! Make it exactly how you want it to be.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After losing myself and not knowing what I wanted to do in life… I finally found my spark again! My father got sick with stage 4 lung cancer in 2022 and this was devastating but I had so much hope. I spoke to him throughout this time and after every conversation he let me know that I gave him hope and that he would continue to fight. I didn’t realize it in the moment but my words really made a difference in his world. Sometimes all you need is a push or to know someone else is there. I made him feel comforted and safe with my words. This made me realize I need to use my voice to do the same for the world! Unfortunately, he passed away June 29. June 23 was his funeral and although I was extremely nervous and going back and forth with my own brain inside of my head because of my severe anxiety of these types of things, I got up on stage at the church and spread a message to all the family and friends in attendance that day. My message was “From my grandfather(80) to my youngest nephew(5), time is limited but you still have so much opportunity as long as you are breathing! Make the most of your life, learn from every experience, and be a good person!” My father wanted to open a business before he passed and as sad as his passing was I learned so much from it. If you apply this same concept to life and realize that your “L’s” are lessons not losses you will no longer live in the victim mindset, but the creator mindset. We have to hold ourselves accountable for our lives! Time waits for no man. I know my father is proud.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn attitude. Previously I used attitude in a cause and effect type of way. I’m upset because of what you did to me. Not understanding that life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react. You create your own future. You get to choose every outcome of any situation. Life is truly a mental game. Keep your attitude positive and watch how you thrive! When you use attitude in a negative way you will only attract negative outcomes. Life is too short to be unhappy. It’s very unhealthy. Choose happiness everytime! People will only treat you and judge you by how they see you.
